It is not unreasonable to argue that in his last games as a Flyer, during the 2007-2008 playoffs, Hatcher was one of the most effective Flyer players on the ice. He was a monster...anchoring the D amidst key injuries to other dmen and despite pulling a Yzerman and playing on one knee. Dude left it all on the ice in the playoffs for the Flyers. Can't ask for more than that. Hatcher was old school. (Just ask Roenick). - Lexington Flyer
As slow and injury riddled as our team was that year.. I seriously think we miss a presence like Hatchers or Gators.. those dudes were mean |

They may well. Hamilton is an excellent prospect. If Couturier had been off the board, rather than the other names outside the top 4, Hamilton would have been the best pick. - Jsaquella
Agreed. However, Couturier has proven he can play well at the NHL. Hamilton had some real issues at the WJC (although most of Canada did int he medal round). I guess we'll find out soon enough if Hamilton can be an impact player int he NHL. |

I have to admit, even though I prefer Voracek on the top line with Giroux. I like the idea of Couturier, with Talbot and Voracek. That could be a real good 2 way line. - MJL
in the same light, i like the 2 way ability of Rusty-Read-Simmonds, tho Read's speed was impressive alongside Wellwood on the 2nd line PK late in the season. he is responsible in his own end, and despite his lack of size, could work with a grind-it-out line.

My only minor issue is his foot speed relative the other two, especially Rusty. Won't get many goals off the line rush. |

it's still effective on the PP, as well as dangerous on the PK. plus, i see Briere jumping into that spot when he's healthy

They've been practicing Read with Fedotenko and Simmonds all week. Sometimes with Fedotenko in the middle, but usually Read.
Talbot has been playing LW all week with Couturier and Voracek. - bmeltzer
So, let me get this straight...
Schenn-G-Hartnell (Schenn could swap with Voracek)
Feds-Read-Simmonds (Feds could swap with Talbot)
Talbot-Couturier-Voracek
Rinaldo-(Laughton for 5 games)-(Wellwood/Shelley/Sestito/McGinn => best 1 of 4liners)
[Briere injuried and returns when Laughton leaves?, Read drops to 4line]
Timmo-Schenn
Grossman-Coburn
(Lilja-Gervais-Foster => best 2 of 3)
[Mez injuried, worst of the 3liner's sits, Gus could bump another 3liner]
Bill mentioned that Wellwoods chances aren't looking good because in Practice, he's playing line 5... The coaches may already know what he's got to offer, and just taking a look at the others. Come game day, I bet he's suited up. Rinaldo-Read-Wellwood would be a quick energy line. Hopefully Rinaldo will reduce the penalties.
Also, I bet we'll see Coots and Read combination this year as well. They played strong last year. |

I'd have to imagine that Read moves to wing and Feds goes to the 4th line when Briere comes back. |

As mentioned, looks like Thursday is going to be Giroux Captain day. - Hextall271
I see more of a position for Giroux to succeed by being named Captain now, then Richards when he was named. Sure Giroux is our best player but it's more then that. He's a former Flyers first round pick and home grown. Giroux saw the immaturity of Carter and Richards. He may have even been a part of it. These reasons alone should make him a better Captain and the only choice to be Captain. |

Hey Bill,
It looks like Wade Redden might be able to be bought out this year and play. Haven't heard anything about him in the minors, but would he be an upgrade if cheap for the flyers? |

He hasnt played an NHL game in over 2 years, and is a -9 over that time in the minors. |

I know the big issue is that he wasn't performing at a level that was commensurate with his salary, but I really wonder what he'd be worth? 1 mil and play as a 5/6 dman? Good question. |
