I have a better idea. Bowman takes off his sissy pants, makes the deal with Ottawa for one of their 3 goalies, who are better than Crawford, and Zach Smith and makes the team a true Cup contender
- furso27

And what do you propose we give Ottawa in return? It's a nice thought to think we can make a deal to bring in two players, but at what cost exactly? Might help your argument a little bit

Something's up. Can't see Crow or Razor packing for The Rock though.

Two possibilities:

Due to his contract status he might have to be re-enry waivered to be brought up. Although that seems really unlikely. Or they have made a deal and added a goalie. If they made the deal that was close over the weekend (or similar—which was a defenseman for a goalie) then they might need to make room by losing a goalie.

This team will go as far as their goaltending. With the kids in the minors pushing for playing time, this deep, talented and amazingly fun team to watch just needs to get over believing that Crawford is a NHL starting goalie and go get a Bernier or Bobby Lou and be done.
I am a Wings fan but have admired the job that Stan Bowman has done putting this team back together after the post cup purge of a few years ago. Smart signings, an amazing farm system and good trades have you guys positioned for the long run. Good luck this year. I picked a Rangers/Black Hawks cup this year, would love to see an original six battle to breath some life into this shortened season.

yave, i have to agee with you 110%! you watch if the hawks get serious about Luongo, these boards will heat up negatively like an extra alarm fire!
personally, Bernier is a goalie of the future, would i like to see that? hell ya! can he, so young in his career lead us to a cup? you tell me.
Luongo ,on the other hand, bad contract, too many side distractions in vancouver was his demise. if he were to come here, just play goalie and that's it, he could be 1 of the missing pieces. the bigger question is, will his pride and ego allow him to just "play goalie & leave all the other stuff to 19,88,10 & 81?? who knows!
but the patern of our GM will be to "stand pat".

Hey JJ! How is it goin? Hope you are doung well and are payched about this Saturdays game...If they waived him just because of contract status, how soon will we find out? Was the trade you were talking about for Montoya?

This all feels too familiar---hoping some youngsters step up, no #2 center, not enough top 6 grit, will Q settle on some lines, will Stan make a real trade...I have no reason to believe that this year will be any different than last.

I like the top 2 lines that JJ put out there but there are STILL some guys miscast after that. Stalberg on the 3rd line? Shaw at C? Frolik on the 4th? Still nobody to win a draw outside of Toews.

I like the D (again this year, on paper) and that might make CC better. But a trade for an upgrade in goal or at center means losing one of them and making Brookbank play regular shifts...

The sooner the Hawks replace Crawford the better chance the team has at winning Stanley. You need a goalie who can win at least one or more games by themselves for their team and have the teams confidence.

The longer the hawks wait the asking price is only going to be higher at trade deadline for other goalies. Why back yourself in that corner knowing Crawford is not your future.

That would make sense why Carter Hutton would be waived. Lehner is only 21.

Really? I think you'll find a lot of disagreement from Hawks fans. Hit hit a home run getting Leddy for Cam Barker, but that's it in terms of trades.

It remains to be seen if Brookbank and Rozsival can add some stability and depth to their blue line, but can go down the list of his free agent acquisitions the last two years, from John Scott to Fernando Pisani, Andrew Brunette, Sean O'Donnell, and others, and all I see is the ability to go dumpster diving in the NHL scrap heap.

- MartiniMan

That is the thing about the NHL I have been trying to point out. Building a run away contender in today's league is pretty close to impossible. I thought NYR was the top team last year and should be this year but if Gabo gets injured again that totally changes the dynamic of their team and their chances of winning a Cup...

The Hawks have a good chance to get into the finals this year provided they stay healthy and get a role player or two to step up come playoff time. The exact same thing could be said for Vancouver, LA or San Jose out of the West (still 100% sure STL last year was a fluke and they will fail miserably this year).

Granted, Bowman has done little to add anything meaningful the last two years when it was clear... clear... they needed help in net (at a minimum plan B or 2A option) and definitely a center who can grind out 12-15 minutes and win 52-56% of his draws. But overall I don't think this is a terrible group and it will be interesting to see if they nut up or something else.

If this team falls short and it comes down to F/O and untimely awful net-minding then StanBow probably needs to find a new job IMO. If their PP and PK are in the toilet again then Q should probably seek new employment as well.

My understanding is OTT wanted more than Leddy, thus the deal died. Would not surprise me at all if the deal has not been revisited. Both teams have obvious needs.

If that's the case, I do that in a heartbeat.

From a purely asset management standpoint. Consider:

a)The Hawks currently have 7-8 D-men at the NHL level. Leddy plays a similar game to Keith and Oduya.

b)Clendening and Leddy are for the most part the same kind of prospect. Reading the tea leaves, it seems like the organization is really high on Clendening. Would it be great to keep Leddy and Clendening and get rid of Oduya down the line? Of course, but Oduya's not going anywhere anytime soon

c) The organization has no blue-chip goaltending prospect. Not even a light-blue chip prospect between the pipes. Considering you have a similar prospect to Leddy in Clendening, you're trading from a position of surplus (puck-moving Dman) to fill a need (goaltending depth).

The argument can be made that you're trading a NHL player for an AHL player, but really, both Leddy and Lehner are 21 and predicting either of their futures is a crapshoot right now. This organization needs a G prospect, and if you can get a guy like Lehner for Leddy, you do it.

We'll see, I also heard yesterday they had kicked the tires on Bernier but LA was not ready to deal him due to questions about Quick.

Seems to me, without knowing more, there are some dots that could be connected here—Hawks looking at AHL with #1A potential or/NHL 1B with 1A potential goalies, Hutton being waived, etc.

It is also possible the Hawks make a move for Bishop as I heard they had some level of interest in all three top OTT goalies, but Lehner was the guy they really wanted.

Carter Hutton is a legit prospect in his own right.
