I have no problem signing Redden at league minimum to be the #7 guy. I'd personally rather have him than Potter if Whitney gets hurt/is moved. Plus, depth on defense is never a bad thing. Might be in the minority here though. - BarDownBobo
It really doesn't hurt. The Canucks have like 10D in camp and 9 have been in the NHL semi-regularly recently. If anyone goes down then you have someone competent to step in and depth isn't as much of an issue. All it takes is one pulled groin and the Oilers D isn't far removed from last years, at all. |
|
|
|
It's almost guaranted the Oilers will sustain injuries on the back end, can't have too many dmen.
Richard, you sure Tambellini wasn't talking about how getting Schultz and Yakupov was like having two first round picks this year. Pretty sure that is what was said. |

I was listening to the interview last night, and I think clouts is right.. Tambo did say they had 2 first round picks this year.. It caught me off guard and originally I thought I missed something. I was also half asleep tho |

Horcoff being bought-out depends on a couple factors:
- Does Eric Belanger bounce back and play well?
- Is Sam Gagner good enough to be a #2 center
- Horcoff's play has lots to do with it too. Better he plays, less chance he goes.
- Then there's the question about how to replace him if he is bought out. Oilers would need to finish mightly poorly to get an immediately replacement at the draft.
I'm hoping Horcoff and the entire Oilers team plays great. Then there would be no reason to buy him out. - Maxbone
um, didn't you say the oilers would buy Horcoff out the second that they could? That was a few blogs ago but i wonder how your mind could change so quickly? |
|

There is no way in hell the Oilers are trading Whitney at this point of the year. Possibly at the deadline if he's healthy and we're out of the playoff hunt. The 1st rounder does nothing for us now. We should be promoting winning and not trying to get more 1st round picks. |

hahahah i was thinking the same thing. and why not offer redden a contract to see if in fact he is better than corey potter (which he probably is) he was only buried in the minors so his cap hit wouldnt count so they could go after all the free agents like they always do, not because he was a terrible dman. not saying hes great but if whitney was making 6.5mil and you wanted to go free agent shopping you would bury him/buy him out as well |

N.Schultz must be a hell of a 'room guy' to get it instead of Smid. - BigDre
I heard he's a good leader and well liked and that a lot of people in Minnesota were pissed when he got traded |

Indeed. Seniority has nothing to do with being a leader... You either have it or you don't. N. Schultz supposedly has it... |

Clouts, I just know deep down in your heart, you have a feeling that the oil are gonna be pretty damn good this year, more than just making the playoffs
I've been following this team for a few years and I cannot wait for them to take over the league. I've always thought the closest comparable player to Claude Giroux in this entire league, in terms of hockey IQ/skill/creativity, is Jordan Eberle. I just love watching both of those guys play the game the way they do, with such gracefulness and intelligence. The game seems so small to them. I have Nugey Hoper and Ebs on my fantasy team and I'm more than excited to see what's in store for them this season! Go Oilers! And of course, Go Flyers!! |

I would have rather had 2 home alternates and 2 away alternates..
Hall, ebs as a pair and Hemsky, smid as a pair. - Zinner
wait, they didn't ask your opinion before making the decision? that's weird... |

The Oilers will not buyout Shawn Horcoff at this time (in case you wondered). Why? Because there's no advantage to it. Owners need to buyout this season at 100% of contract value, and Horcs is a decent 3rd line center on a team that isn't great at the position. If he's going to get paid the full amount no matter where he is, he might as well be here playing.
this isnt news.
it's pretty much the same thing the rest of us have been saying for months everytime u talked how horcoff should go and the oilers will buy him out first chance they get.

11 years with the Wild, longest tenured player in Wild history. He is missed by Wild fans. I didn't understand the trade at first, but in hind sight it makes a bit more sense now for both teams.
Gilbert is more of an offensive minded puck mover, Schultz a staunch defensive defenseman.
Both teams needed what they got. |
