My issues with Murray are two fold. I personally dont buy into reactionary systems and especially not with the current design on this team.
The second is I think he is a terrible motivator who doesnt hold his players accountable enough. I get nightmares of our old friend Johnny Stevens whenever I think of him. - flyer_nutter
I don't think you're looking at the facts. I've personally seen Terry Murray bench Eric Lindros for periods at a time, when he felt he wasn't playing the right way. So I have no idea what you're basing that on. And teams that play the defensive side of the puck, and counter attack have been very successful in this League. |

The Devils had big star power, and players suited to play such a style.
I hate it but if the team got top level goaltending and really improved the back end I could live with a scheme like that. Would still prefer something more aggressive however. - flyer_nutter
The Flyers don't have big star power? Ilya Kovalchuk is a better defensive player than Danny Briere?
As far as scheme goes, if they win like the Kings, I'd be more than happy with it. So long as it wins. |

With our mobile QB Nick Foles!
Gotta think Vick COULD be back. - NickTheKid87
Good point. Kelly's system must have a mobile QB. Can't count on Vick staying healthy at this point. Not to mention he's just not very good. |

I was talking about when Jersey won the cups. Currently the Flyers do not have same star power on D and in net.
Hell if they win, they win. Even in a BS short season like this one I will be happy. With the current group, I dont see it. We will see though. |

Would not be surprised if the Eagles draft Geno Smith now. |

NJ got to the Final last year with their patchwork defense and 40 year old goalie |

Smith will get drafted high. Teams will think he can duplicate the success RG3, Wilson, and Kaepernick. |

I thought we were talking about when they won the cups.
They got to the final yes. Lost as well. The Flyers made the finals against Chicago. Coaches have different systems because they believe some are better than others.
In general I despise a reactionary system. With the current setup of the team I would be even more hesistant to employ such a system. You play to your strengths. I believe Lava will tweak things but there is so much a coach can do when a guy gets beat on coverage because he is slow or in general not a good defensive player. |

He could. A lot of the mock drafts I have seen have Smith going # 1 to KC. That was before they hired Bluto though. |

Think I read somewhere Subban was asking for 6million a season from Montreal. Thats insane.
Benn and O'Reilly also still unsigned. |

I like whatever wins. If a trap wins, play a trap. If Run N Gun, Oilers from the 1980s wins, use that. Even discussing liking or disliking a certain style of play is a moot point to me, because I don't care what style they play, so long as it maximizes the players on hand.
Tweaks can be made it mitigate a lack of mobility. People thought Scott Stevens was getting washed up, then when they added Brian Rafalski, Stevens wasn't so slow anymore. They Flyers can also make trades.
This isn't a team that will stand pat if things aren't working. Good or bad, they will make a move if it's not working. |

Definately. Its all personal thoughts anyway. I think either way a move has to be made for a more mobile d-man with PP QB ability. Very soon they will have to bring in another top level guy to replace Kimmo. |

Also on waivers is Marc-Andre Gragnani. I wouldn't be against rolling the dice on him, either. Obviously not a top 4 guy, but mobile and offensive minded. |

I wouldn't be amazed if they re-signed Timonen to a short term, smaller cap hit deal, say 2 years for $4mm per |
