Elkins (ANA). Yonkman, Wright, Caruso (FLA). Pelech, McCarthy, Kearns (SJ). Plante, Byers, House (EDM). Porter, Tarnasky, Pardy (BUF).

Finally the Plante flop is complete! Now we should fire Lowe for that horrible waste of a higher (top 10 ) pick!

Kinda shocked we're cutting bait on Plante.

I was hoping Plante could turn into a new version of Andy Sutton. 6'6, slow, physical, defefensive, takes stupid penalties. What's not to like?

The only shocking thing is that it took so long. Plante is (frank)ing awful and even on an AHL team was a waste of a roster space.

he sure was, in 07, probably fooled the scouts by playing on what was a pretty good hitmen team back then. Still in hindsight, waste of a first round pick.

True dat. Or even some other notables taken after him Blum-23rd, Perron-26th, Subban-43rd, Galiardi-55th, Simmonds-61st, Martinez-95th, and even that Benn guy at 129th. How do scouts miss over soooooo many players so often and pick crap in the first round?

You mean like mean like the flames picking Mark "the janitor" Jankowski last draft? Naaaaaa that is just stupid. Im sure he would have been there in the 5th or 6th round. No need to trade down for that.
Still though, ya gotta wonder what these scouts see when guys like Plante are getting picked ahead of such better players.

Can't have too many Dmen. I'm curious to see if any teams rotate their 7/8's even if the top 6 is healthy. Give some of the guys a night off in a compressed schedule. Have a back to back Columbus/Detroit? Rest one of your top 4 against Cbus. Might be one of the better ways to avoid injuries.

I think he was having a good year in Calgary, and the Oilers had taken Gagner earlier in the first round... The Oilers had their feelings hurt by Pronger, so they wanted to get a big D-man who they thought had some potential. Unfortunately, things didn't work out.

Although scouts spend a lot of time attending games, I honestly think that anyone who researches players on the internet could have a similar amount of success at the draft (compared to just about any GM out there). People will probably disagree, but I don't care...

Well that is definitely why clout's thinks he knows a lot about hockey, but I think ya gotta attend games and see how the player does the little things, his hockey sense and awareness, skating ability, etc, etc, before ya can really get a sense of his worth. Stats on the internet are cool and all, but they don't tell the players whole story. Case in point- M.A. Pouliot. Damn does a guys stats look good playing junior with whats her name????

I don't mean just point totals and plus/minus though... I mean all of those scouting reports with the hockey sense, skating ability, etc etc are out there... They're there for all of us to read, and by reading them, many fans can make lists that are probably as good as (in some cases better than) most GMs. I know several GMs had me shaking my head during the last couple of drafts.

My previous post was supposed to be a knock on the GMs, not the scouts... The scouts supply us with decent info.

Well essentially, the GM's are supposed to be listening to the scouts but it seems like they are either not listening or the scouts are just idiots. But yes I get your point and a valid one at that good sir.
