What are you talking about? Everybody knew he didn't belong up with the big club last year. We are knew he was over matched and rushed and that he couldn't be judged so when guys like you would kill him we would tell you those exact words. Also it went from some Great flashes to some good shifts. Which is it?
- Vukota

I didn't know until I saw him play. I just went with what I read which pointed towards him being ready? I remember quite a few articles saying he out grew juniors. They were obviously wrong. What the Islanders did with him after realizing this was reprehensible as far as I'm concerned. Playing him for 4 or five min a game with those guys was a disgrace. Purely for salary cap reasons? It was a joke. If he turns his game around good for him.

Nobody did but anybody who doesn't have their head up their own arse could see after a couple of games he shouldn't have been up.

I agree. He shouldve never been up in the first place. Did he look like he put on some weight?

Haha. I can see this happening.

It amazes me how many times Snow rewards mediocrity if he is familiar with the player. Over/under for games played by Martinek this season probably around 5

Post scrimmage thoughts.

- Dee Karl

Without even reading the comments......i was at that scrimmage and heres how it went.

To call Rick Dipietro sharp is beyond ridiculous. Nowhere did it mention that they switched goalies at the 10 min mark of the second. Soooo, the isles with Ricky were up 3-2. They switched and Ricky let in a few stinkers......final score 5-3. He is not an NHL goaltender anymore. Nabby did look sharp...

The best two players on the ice were Tavares and Streit. Nino and Brock have great chemistry and both looked better than half the isles. Strome and Reinhart have some work to do before playing with the big club.

If last night was any indication, the isles looked pretty poor at best. All coaches were all smiles........they have more job security than we do.

is anyone other than I wondering how in the world Nino isn't in camp and looking at a top six role? I didn't even know Boyes was playing last night, Grabner showed some speed but no drive to the net and aside from JT, Moulson and KO, I didn't see anyone else skating with the same speed and drive that Nino had.

How this kid plays all last year on the fourth line when he's not ready and then isn't in camp when he's a standout last night and putting up goals in the AHL is a mystery to me. Strome gets sent back, Nino gets brought up, Boyes should get shuffled to the third line behind KO and Nino on the RW.

We have to stop rushing prospects. Just because Nino is scoring a point per game in Bridgeport doesn't mean he's ready for top six minutes in the NHL. Let him score at that clip for more than a couple of months. Let him get a full season down in Bridgeport. I remember another Isles prospect who scored a point per game in Bridgeport but didn't do s**t at the NHL level, Jeff Tambellini.

Nino looked awesome last night.......the kid has convidence. You can see it every time he touches the puck.

Noticed all season that while his first couple of strides are still a ways off, his overall speed and even more important his anticipation are much better. He breaks up ice at the right times, so when he takes a pass, he's already going full speed. And yeah, he looked like he wanted to prove something last night too. Ness as well. Actually, once they settled down, I thought the whole BPort team looked like they wanted to show the Lockout Squad that they could play.
- UIF

I was not impressed at all with Ness.........,matter of fact i was more interested in Hickey. Finley got no burn whatsoever.......for a guy 6 ft 8, he can skate. I would have liked to have seen more of him.

His skating is sub par, and his hands are like feet.

He used to play left wing, yet they had him on RW last night??? How can he do the backhand toe drag on the right side.....???

I find it very amusing that the same 2 guys who killed me when I was down on him early last year are now saying he did not have any good flashes... He did not score but he did have some very good shifts yes. Break aways, Hits, etc.
- niteislander

Nino did nothing well last year. That's why he had two points and had the worst plus/minus in hockey among forwards over 55 games last year. Nino was God-awful at the NHL level. He didn't belong in the NHL and he showed it night in and night out. Now, he's finally being brought along properly, and having success to boot, and people want to go back to the same, flawed reasoning on development and bring him back up to the NHL. Forget it.

Let the kid do his thing in the "A". This franchise has got to get out of the habit of rushing prospects because they need salary numbers to reach salary floor requirements or because they simply can't find anyone better willing to sign with them to allow the prospects to properly develop.

Can he? A few of the Buffalo posters said he wasn't a good skater? If he's got size and he can skate sounds good.

I think everyone always assumes when I comment I am angry or something.. I am bored and just trying to kill time talking about hockey.

I never killed the guy.. and I also agreed he was rushed. What I said was I had and have a big concern on him not being a finisher, goal scorer, sniper, whatever...

I often bring up guys in the drafts that I think will be steals b/c they have a knack for putting the puck in the net... period. The scouts always talk about finese, speed, size, etc. etc... The don't pay as much attention to "sniper" ability. The reason I was praying we drafted Skinner was he scored a lot a goal a game before draft. Ron Francis skated like he was carrying a piano.. but he scored.. alot. Mellanby, Bossy, etc.... I brought up with Nino that I was concerned at his lack of scoring touch and hoping it was not an ongoing issue. (That was what u guys disagreed with b/c of minutes and linemates).. I was bringing up situations where he had the puck and an open shot that ended up going into the goalie's chest. We have had many guys that could not score to save their life (Lappy). I want to see Nino score. Especially when he gets set up in the slot on a great pass. I am hoping it was nerves..

I saw him get 3 short shifts. His stride is ridiculous........its like he can get end to end in a few strides. Yes, he can skate, and i woulda liked to have seen more of him. He was light years better than Carkner.
