Apparently Mirtle got bad info, Tim Connolly clears waivers.

Isles did claim Ben Strait from Pens

As long as Malkin Crosby Letang and Fluery is on that team, they are favorites every year.

I think the biggest problem the Flyers may have this year will come as a direct result of head to head divisional play. I don't think any team will give up a point easily. Almost impossible this year for four teams to make playoffs from same division. But, it will be great, great hockey.

So Connelly clears, and the Isles claim Brian Strait from the Pens and Jets claim James Wright from FLA.

and Florida signed Kovalev?

That's definitely a worry. If some of the stronger teams in the NE and SE dominate their Divs maybe it'll shake down that we make it. I think the Rangers are gonna be hell to beat for everyone and I don't see why everyone is taking Pitt to win it all.

Sometimes we forget the picks are very young and sometimes even younger than we think. Couturier was "old" in his draft in that he just missed the previous year's draft by a short time. Hamilton, on the other hand, was the youngest kid taken in his draft and just missed sliding to the next year by a few days.

You need a couple of years to let the age thing settle itself out.

- spatso

Well then I guess I need to retract my original statement then since Hamilton is apparently 11.5 months younger than Couturier.

If Hamilton turns out to be a stud so be it. Look at the season Couturier has under his belt at 19. The sky is the limit for this kid.

I'm surprised people are upset at the Flyers drafting Couturier over Hamilton. It's not like Hamilton is a lock or even likely to win a Norris Trophy or even be a contender for one. While Couturier has a legit shot at being a Selke winner while putting up 55-60 points while doing so.

It could be the hair but SC looks like a completely different person from last year. The kid has gone through a tremendous maturity spurt over the last year, even from the end of the season. He is still to physically developing and maturing....hes going to be a beast

I disagree. They ended up getting 4 very solid, young NHLers with loads of potential. When the Flyers made that trade, they had a very deep top six, despite the ages of Pronger and Timonen.

So while it is possible they could have gotten a young, prospect defenseman there was no spot for a NHL ready defenseman. Granted, they could have taken Dougie Hamilton at the draft, and I feel they would have if Couturier hadn't dropped to 8th.

- Jsaquella

back then, i wanted to take one of the newly acquired assets and move them or one of our other plyrs for d help. i stand by that and i think the dearth of available puck movers reveals a lost opportunity. i certainly appreciate homer's efforts to get weber, but those are low % moves.

I give the slight edge to Subban only because he hasn't faltered the way Del Zotto did in his second year. Other than that, I would say they are comparable.
- NickTheKid87

subban adds a physical element and i look at him as the better plyr...that could change over time the way dmen develop.

Kovalev's short time in the KHL was abysmal. Can't imagine what, if anything, he has left.

How many times did he try to draw a penalty, shaking his hand in mock pain, allowing opponents to rush the other way? Do they keep that stat in the K?

maybe im insane - and obviously alot depends on Meszy's health - but i actually kind of like that defense

moving the puck could be a bit of an issue, but if they get that figured out and start to gel, i think they could be pretty solid

As long as the forwards don't create a huge gap between themselves and the D, I'm inclined to agree with you. The mainstream press is going with the Penguins to win. Here's hoping they are proven wrong again. As was said above, I like the Flyers being underdogs.

Meszaros is the key. He needs to get healthy and elevate his puck moving and offensive game. It's a tough task considering the circumstances.

I think the Pens are going to really feel the loss of J Staal.

I wonder why if he's not 100% they would play him? I am perfectly fine with Gervais playing until Mesz is ready. Maybe it's one of those..he can't do any damage to itand just needs games to get into shape.
