That was prob just the training camp number he was assigned. Once you make the roster that normally changes. For example, in G's first stint with the team, he wore 56 but when he made the team permanently, he went to the more normal number of 28

Accelerated compliance buyout for Redden vs a June compliance buyout? I thought the buyouts couldn't happen until June? Also, why do the Rangers get a cap hit?

nhl quickly decided that teams could have 1 compliance buyout prior to the season starting, so guys like Redden and Gomez wouldn't be sitting at home.

Ok, so there's atill 2 buyouts total? No cap hit for buyouts in June, right?

Essentially, the idea is they can perform the compliance buyout now, still have the cap hit for the year, and the player can sign elsewhere. It's an alternative to sending said player home to collect a paycheck to not play (which was the plan, the Rangers didn't want to risk him getting injured in the AHL).

Still two total, teams may only use one of their buyouts now.

Also, the cap hit goes away next season and the big difference, teams using an accelerated compliance buyout must pay the player the full dollar value of the remaining contract, rather than the 2/3rds if they were bought out in summer.

So, Redden & Gomez will get paid whatever amount was left on their deal, where a guy bought out in June will get 66% of the remaining cash

Meszaros is the key. He needs to get healthy and elevate his puck moving and offensive game. It's a tough task considering the circumstances.

Seeing him in practice on Wednesday, you have to expect he might struggle at the beginning with mobility and conditioning. He just seemed like he was struggling with certain types of skating. Struggling compared to other NHL skaters, not a schlub skater like me mind you.

The area around his achilles will be weak but I don't think reinjury is a factor. Hopefully he can power through it and get up to speed quickly.

If he can get back to anywhere near 100% it will be a huge shot in the arm for that dcorps, that's for sure.

Meszaros is a little more than 5 months removed from achilles surgery. Not sure the extent of the tear, but this is one of the quicker returns I have seen. Having torn both my achilles tendons, 5 months post surgery my ass was still behind a desk.

I really hope he isn't rushing back. Surgeons say once the achilles heals post surgery there is no greater risk of injury had the tendon never been operated on. If Meszaros isn't fully healed there is a risk for him to tear it again.

how much longer do you think he might need? I know achilles tears are serious but its always good to hear from someone who's been through it.

No idea Joe. Not sure the extent of his tear. Also, he's 10 years younger than me and a world class athlete, so his timetable to heal would probably be quicker than mine. Playing NHL hockey puts far more stress on the achilles than what I have to do though. I'm a little concerned he's coming back to early.
