Also, the cap hit goes away next season and the big difference, teams using an accelerated compliance buyout must pay the player the full dollar value of the remaining contract, rather than the 2/3rds if they were bought out in summer.
So, Redden & Gomez will get paid whatever amount was left on their deal, where a guy bought out in June will get 66% of the remaining cash - Jsaquella
They pay the player 100% of his salary for this Season. But for remaining years it's the same 2/3 or 1/3 formula.

That would work but you know he'd find a reason to not draft a d-man high |

No idea Joe. Not sure the extent of his tear. Also, he's 10 years younger than me and a world class athlete, so his timetable to heal would probably be quicker than mine. Playing NHL hockey puts far more stress on the achilles than what I have to do though. I'm a little concerned he's coming back to early. - PLindbergh31
this worries me:
Last year, the New Jersey Devils' Travis Zajac suffered a torn Achilles tendon in mid-August, underwent surgery, and missed the first 30 games. He returned to the lineup in December, then aggravated the injury and missed 37 more games.

I am worried as well. I hope he's not rushing it. |

This entire season will be like no other. A total grind. No room for error. Tomorrow we fight for a playoff spot in the first game and every single one after.

This place was populated with quite a number of posts decrying the signing of Briere and not getting Gomez in the summer of 2007. If Gomez signs here for $900k or less they can bury him in the AHL if he stinks.
Enjoy the A, though. You can root for the Hershey Bears.
That spawned a thought: In Hershey, PA, do they go out of their way to NOT call kids in the 9-10 range "Squirts?" |

If Gomez does end up with the Devils, I think it would be a good pick up for them. The Devils seem to know how to get their own going. They take average players and make them decent under their system. I hate the Devils |

Full for this year ....2/3 for any remaining years......They were going to pay the full amount anyway......net net the same payout |

So really the only thing that makes this buyout period different from doing the same next summer is that the player is released into free agency a year early (which consequently avoids any injury-related gambles through this season). |

The amount of salary paid to the player, plus they have to carry the Cap hit this year. A buyout next Summer is Cap free!

Right, but an accelerated compliance whatever thing also becomes 'free' on the cap next summer. Both buyouts also see the player paid fully this year, then at however-many-thirds their salary next summer and beyond. It's really just a matter of when the paperwork is filed, with the exception of the 'player becomes a free agent now' part. |
