And a lazy ref who's been cited for his lack of putting himself in a good position behind the net in Bill's thread numerous times over the years. A prior complaint about him led me to saving this in my favorites, wishing he'd move on to car sales:
Lazy guy probably sells cars that need work under the hood, judging from that pic. - Flyskippy
There's going to be calls where the call goes the Flyers way. So I think it will even out. I think it's easy to talk about, but hard to do. The bottom line for me wasn't the refs. It was that the Flyers didn't play well enough to win. They gave up 3 PP goals.

Look at how far our of position DVM was on this call. Didn't hustle for better look, Took 1 lazy stride and waved off.
Now, while I'm a bit upset at the call, it's not why they Flyers lost. - Jsaquella
He's as bad as Dave Jackson, but for totally different reasons. AHL refs are better than both - their rules are changed more often than underwear. |

On air they said Rinaldo was cut by a skate but no tendon or deep injury, any update you heard? |

One of the primary premises of the philosophy is to recognize key areas on the ice where players most frequently battle for the puck or occupy space. Prime battle areas are the corners of the end zone extending back behind the goal and primary cycle areas down low. The referee needs to read the play in advance and vacate these high traffic areas as he keeps the play in front of him wherever possible. The area that the referee should work along the side boards in the end zone extends from the goal line up to the hash marks at the faceoff circle against the boards. If he is bumped by play to either of these "last stand" lines the referee should pivot out allowing play to go behind him for a split second then rotate his hips and push back on a 45-degree angle to assume the other safe vantage point. - Jsaquella
This is another part that constantly irritates me. there's seemingly no anticipation of the play by a lot of refs, and they get caught in the corner and get in the way of the natural flow of the game.

Sure, they didn't totally help their own cause - but the first "goal" by Rusty would have changed the complexion of the game with the following two goals. 3-1 instead of 2-1.
However, as I am sure you will simply entrench yourself in your position as opposed to allowing anyone else to be correct on a subject upon which you disagree, I resign myself to Twitter. |

Actually, van Massenhoven is a good ref, when the play is flowing. He usually calls a consistent game, which for me is the most important thing a ref can do. The trouble is, he is often lazy in getting into position when play requires him to skate fast |

Two bad calls on the goals, but hard to disagree that these will even out over the season, no? |
|
|

The problem with an offer sheet is, you either have to massively overpay him & give up a bunch of 1st rounders or Montreal will match. - Jsaquella
Bad blood as well. $6.25 million coughs up a 1, 2 & 3. I'm sure teams are offerring Montreal more than that. It will be interesting to follow. |

From what the beats were saying during the game on twitter, they expected him to be out for a few days while it healed. |

Absolutely. I don't feel they lost because of the waved off goal or quick whistle. The first goal could have changed the complexion of the game, but the Flyers did manage a 2-1 lead after that happened.
Unfortunately, they didn't play well enough to hold that lead or build on it. Bryzgalov is the only reason they got out of the 2nd period tied at two, and they did him no favors in the third. |

With Edler signing for $5M a year, PK should not get more then that.
6.25 seems high, but dumber things have happened. |

they looked out of steam in the third
even though rinaldo plays 10 or less that didn't help losing him |

Well why wouldn't I do so? The whistle was blown before the puck crossed the goal line. It's a bad break. But it happens time and again in this game. Refs aren't perfect and never will be. The first goal disallowed is the one really bad call. Miller was barely touched and embellished. I saw a team that gave up 3 PP goals, and didn't provide nearly enough offensive pressure to win the game. I think that and the schedule of playing a game back to back less then 24 hours apart are the biggest reason why they lost. Not the refs. I personally don't like to blame losses on officiating. It's part of the game. |

I don't get the bad blood part...well, I do get it, but I think it's stupid. There's no rule against signing a RFA to an offer sheet, and honestly in most cases a guy holding out is getting lowballed.
Look at Weber. Supposedly he was being offered around $6mm per in Nashville, only a year after they went to arbitration with a $4mm per year offer. That's for one of the best defensemen in the sport.
With the December cut off it really puts a gun to a RFA's head. |

Losing Rinaldo did hurt. He's been seeing more minutes and has played well for the Phantoms and in the opener vs Pittsburgh. |

I'm told McGinn did not return to Glens Falls with the Phantoms, but no move has been made. Probably depends on Rinaldo's status.
Looks like Tye McGinn will get a call i Rinaldo is out for awhile. - Jsaquella
McGinn played today for the Phantoms. I guess they mean from after the game. |

I'd take PK on the Flyers in a minute, they could use his offense from the blue line.
Doubt it will happen, but I would love it. |

I think Del Zotto signed for 2.55. So that is a comparable for Subban. I thought it was low for Del Zotto though. Really a good deal for the Rangers.
