I would not give Montreal both Schenn's for Subban.
- MJL

w/ another forward coming back to the flyers, it could be a good deal for both teams...it would have to be a good prospect or a guy like eller.

re L schenn, you obviously are predisposed to view him positively, whereas i'm simply saying it's too early to make any concrete judgements.

and if we dredged up every post-transaction analysis - even years out - that you made, it wouldn't be any better than mine. i thought the value received back for JVR was not up to snuff and i stand by that. i felt that way about carter as well and it appears as if i was wrong. i was on target about richards before and after he was traded. your strong suit is cba and rulebook issues, but when it comes to player evaluation, you don't have anything on me...or many others here for that matter.

I have a friend who plays the core MMO game. He describes it as 'spreadsheets in space'. Is DUST on PS3?
- BulliesPhan87

Yeah, PS3. And deep as hell. There's really no way to have a well-rounded character, either...the way it's set up, you pretty much have to specialize in one field of weaponry.

Part of development is getting the proper coaching and mentoring, too. Coburn came to Philly and had two former NHL defensemen on the staff, as well as a coach in Terry Murray who is recognized around the league for his strong work as a defensive strategist. Then, the Flyers went out and added Kimmo Timonen and Jason Smith, which gave Coburn two outstanding mentors in addition to the existing one in Derian Hatcher.

Schenn didn't have that in Toronto, which may have actually hurt his development, because it's real easy to learn bad habits and real hard to break them.

Anyone here think a waiver claim on Anthony Stewart would be a solid idea?
- Jsaquella

He had a solid season in Atlanta a few years back. I believe 40 points or so, he's regressed some since then, but he's a big winger with some skill. I'm def thinking he's going to get claimed by someone.

No, but Vandemeer on the other hand could add alot of speed to the backend.

we just have to be patient and let him get back in the swing of things and get used to his new surroundings. coby had the outstanding skating ability, so it was easier to envision where he was headed.

I think it would be clearly better. If you want to discuss Richards again, we can do that. Because in my opinion, last Season proved you were clearly wrong about him. So if you want to open up that can of worms, go ahead.
As far as more recent and current players, it's not too early for initial impressions of the first two games that Luke Schenn has played in a Flyers uniform. Which is what I've done.
What is too early to make any judgements on a player, and trade, or a signing, is before the player has even played a game. Which is something that you frequently do.

Absolutely. Coburn has a lot of obvious tools. Very good skater, especially for his size, which stands out.

I have seen a few things I liked from Schenn over the two games. He made a very nice read and pinch in the Pittsburgh game to extend offensive zone time for the Flyers during the third period. He's willing to do the hard work physically.

In fact I feel a lot of his troubles in the past came from being overaggressive. Scott Stevens had the same troubles when he was a young defenseman in Washington. Now, I am not saying Schenn will be Stevens, who as a younger player had a really good offensive game that Schenn will likely never match. But I am saying a lot of stay at home, physical young defensemen will err on the side of being aggressive than stepping back

And that is the biggest key for Schenn. While he is an adequate skater to play in the NHL, he does not have the skating speed or quickness to recover from a bad read, or poor positioning. But he is not as slow as many make him out to be. So if he strengthens that part of his game to a high level, he will be a very good defensive defenseman. He handles the puck decently and can make an accurate first pass. We'll see how he handles pressure in the long run. In the first two games, it seemed to me that he was looking less for big hits then I expected him to be. I think that's a good thing. And maybe a sign of one of the adjustments to his game, that they are asking him to make.

I am hopeful the coaching/mentoring of Luke Schenn by Chris Pronger will go a long way in Schenn's development & growth during his tenure here.

I'd love to see Pronger stick around for the whole season and work with Schenn.

But I was actually pleasantly surprised with his outlet passing, and I think his skating was better than advertized.

That may have been a one-time thing, as Pronger's back in St Louis. He still does video work for the team from home though.

Same here. Lots of exaggerations on his skating.
