Me too. Ill add that on the play he had to dive and took the tripping penalty, it looked like he got his steps crossed up and stopped skating for a sec at the blueline, at that point he had to scramble back. Just that split second is all any NHL forward needs.
Ive mostly been disappointed in all the players who should be at mid season form. Couturier, B. Schenn, Voracek, Read, they all seem to be fighting the puck.
All of them need to step it up right now. There are no excuses for them. - MBFlyerfan
Schenn's issue on that play was that his positioning was off. He was a shade too far to the middle of the ice, and he doesn't have the foot speed to recover on that, when the pass was made wide to his wing. The whole key for L. Schenn as a player is going to be his anticipation and reading of plays, and his positioning. If he grows in those areas, he is going to be a very solid defensive defenseman. If he doesn't, then he's going to be an average player and a disappointment.

Sestito played better after he was recalled, but I'm still not a big fan. He skates well for a big man, but that doesn't translate into a lot of success.
I do think Laughton will stick. At the very least, he's making it a hard decision, which is good. - Jsaquella
As a 4th liner all you can ask Sestito to do is stir the pot, play disciplined hockey and be responsible defensively, and stick up for his teammates. Anything he does beyond that would be gravy.
I wouldn't be opposed to giving McGinn a chance if Rinaldo can't play Tuesday. Anyone but Shelley is my motto. A 37 yr old "enforcer" doesn't have a place in this league anymore. |

Sophomore slump in full bloom. - JoeRussomanno
Many posters on here can watch hockey 24 / 7 and have no clue about sports.
As I tried to educate eveyone before the season, wishing away Briere is a mistake. I also opined that Coots centering that second line did not look good.
When Briere comes back, Coots can focus on his strength as a defensive center. I cant believe some of the poor commentary and negativity on here. Clearly, we are still lacking a winger to round out the top 9. Read is a 3rd liner.
I'll be back later to drop more knowledge. |

Don't blow defensive assignments(which I have seen Sestito do), provide energy and be physical.
Also for such a big man, Sestito is not the best fighter, which isn't important, but that is how he ended up getting hurt last year. - Jsaquella
Don't you think some experience will help with not blowing assignments? |

He's played well enough for the Phantoms that he's been named an alternate captain. |

I know it's only been 2 games, but Voracek seems to be really struggling. Every time he gets the puck, it seems like he's pressing too much, forcing plays. I'd seriously consider moving him to the top line and letting Schenn go to wing, as Schenn hasn't been good or bad, but Jake needs a wake up.
Also, with how he's played, Laughton's making a good case to stick. He may be a victim of a numbers/contract game, but he's been arguably the 3rd best forward after Giroux and Simmonds. |

I'm not a Sestito fan either. But I wasn't a Rinaldo fan at first either. I think the only reason Sestito is on the team is due to Briere being injured, and the waiver situation with Sestito.

I am a fan and understand why people are not. I just think he brings something every team could use. Big tough physical guy that can skate and irritate the other team. Modern day enforcer if you will. Not gonna make or break a team but the positives can outweigh the negatives. |

That is the consensus opinion. I believe that Tortarella has a very short shelf life. He does real good to get his guys to buy into an all for one and an over the top team first approach that relies heavily on rolling four lines and great special teams. But players tire of the constant pressure and when it begins to wear on them it gets stressful real quick.
This current Ranger team might be more skilled. But they are not nearly as strong as their press releases keep telling us they are. - spatso
The mentality that led to the Rags success last year was still evident in their play last night. I watched Callahan go down and block 3 consecutive shots on a PK when the score was 4-1. The overall execution hasn't been there nor has Lundy bailed them out. He's allowed a few soft goals each game. I wouldn't count on a drop off from the Rags unless Lundy can't replicate what he did last year |

People are unfair to him IMO. He really has never done any harm, and his style of play is clearly beneficial to the team. He was one of a few bright spots in that Jersey series. |

If he doesn't have much speed and his positioning is lacking and he's not an offensive threat what is it that makes him such a promising defenseman? Seems like you could find a lot dmen with those attributes for under $1,000,000. |

Same here. He has really grown as a player. And I think he's going to get better and better. And may even take on bigger roles down the line in his career.
