Who would the player they have to get rid of be?

From the article, I assumed it would be a team with a bad contract. Can't really think of a bad contract on that team? Who would the player they have to deal with be?

Antropov?

That would leave their top-6 pretty weak.

Wouldn't mind getting Kane, though

But I just can't see the Canucks offering enough in addition to Lou.

The obvious choice would be that the team needed to move their current starter, so in Winnipeg that would be Pavelec, say to Chicago for Emery and Leddy, then we move Luongo for Montoyo/Emery plus whatever... Just thinking out loud, no specific thought into the specific players...
- 1970vintage

I thought that, too. But I thought Pavelic had been pretty good for them?

It's been mentioned already, but maybe Washington?

They could get a decent return for Green, and probably try to save a bit of salary on the return. They'd be a bit weak on D then, though.

Possible. But also doubtful, with their financial situation. The contracts no worse than DiPietro's, though, so if they dealt with him it's still possible.

I have a hard time thinking this is much more than just posturing by Gillis, though.

- Fosco

The contracts are both shyte, but Luongo as nowhere near the injury history that DiPietro has.

I gotta think that NYI is fed up with the uncertainty of RD and is certainly a buyout candidate. I believe RD's buyout is ~$24M.

Yeah, I thought Washington too (mentioned it earlier). Holtby had a great run in the playoffs but is he the stanley cup goaltender they need with the current roster? The other guy, Neuvrith or whatever, doesn't seem to be getting it done... So, yeah, maybe they need to move salary (Green as you suggest) in order to make it work. George McPhee has ties to the Canucks.

Forgot about his dui incident. He also passed out a while back. Wonder if there's some health concerns?

Still thought he'd played pretty well last season, though, but I admit that I didn't pay too much attention to his play the first game back.

Don't know if Wang's willing to buy out DP, and pay Lou's salary. Maybe they're trying to find another way of getting rid of DP than a buy out, or Van has to absorb some of Luongo's contract—can't really see either working out, though.
