That's Perron's 4th minor of the season. He's going to find a spot in Hitchcock's doghouse shortly - especially when stuff like that (the opposition scoring on the ensuing PP) happens.
Blues 2, Predators 2. These two teams are now a combined 7-for-8 on the PP this season. |

So ... who picked 4 goals between the teams in the 1st period?
1st period scoring
1. NASHVILLE, Colin Wilson 1 (Patrick Hornqvist, Ryan Ellis), 9:10.
2. ST. LOUIS, Vladimir Tarasenko 3 (Andy McDonald, Kevin Shattenkirk), 10:28.
3. ST. LOUIS, Andy McDonald 1 (Vladimir Tarasenko, Kevin Shattenkirk), 15:04 (pp).
4. NASHVILLE, Mike Fisher 1 (Martin Erat, Patrick Hornqvist), 17:13 (pp).
Shots on goal: St. Louis 14, Nashville 6 |

His trying to walk through 2 defenders rather than dumping it in last period isn't gonna help his case, either. |

Yeah, there's a time to be selfish with the puck and there's a time to rely on your teammates - and right now, he's in "me first" mode, consequences be damned. |

That should have been 3-2 Preds. We were flat-footed defensively on that shift. |

... and the Preds perfect record on the PP is over - but not without a couple scary moments there. Definitely not the same kind of defensive effort we saw Saturday night. |

... well, that was a great PK (/sarc) on what I thought was a really ticky-tacky call. Pietrangelo was out of position there, he played way too high on that because Hornqvist was all alone when he got the puck.
Another PP goal, the Preds are now 2-for-3 tonight. Halak out, Elliott in. Can't say I blame them, Halak has been unsteady (but not outright terrible) tonight.
Predators 3, Blues 2. |

just wondering how good you Blues fans think Vladimir Tarasenko is... this is a player the Ottawa Sens could have drafted but instead Bryan Murray traded for David Rundblad (who was then traded for Kyle Turris)
that being said I've been following Tarasenko ever since he was drafted... and in my book, any 17 year-old playing in the KHL must be pretty damn good. The last kid to do that, I think, was Ovechkin...
anyways, always though Murray should have kept the pick and drafted this guy! |

I have no idea what interference is anymore. Shattenkirk barely touches a guy a half second after the puck leaves his stick and it's a minor penalty... but Tarasenko has been hauled down 4 or 5 times on the other side away from the puck, nothing. |

In many ways, the Blues are lucky to get out of that period just down one. They have to have a much better 3rd period than they've put up in the first two.
2nd period scoring
5. NASHVILLE, Patrick Hornqvist 3 (Martin Erat, Mike Fisher), 12:53 (pp).
Shots on goal: St. Louis 14-9=23, Nashville 6-8=14.
I saw Erat down on the ice at the end of the period, and he got hit by Backes. I didn't think Backes slashed him or checked him hard enough to cause injury, but it did look like Erat took an errant stick to the helmet more than anything. Let's see if he comes out for the 3rd.
On a completely unrelated note: chicken bratwursts from Costco. Yes, they're really worth trying. |

I think Tarasenko has the ability to be a game-changing sniper in the NHL. The kid has size, speed, and hands - and he knows how to use all of them. Maybe more impressively, he put up points in the KHL that was on a pace with the league leaders, but he got much less ice time. He comes in here with a positive attitude, but with a desire to be one of the best in the NHL - and even more importantly, he's willing to work as hard as necessary to make that happen. It's the kind of attitude from the kind of player that the Blues have needed for a long time.
Should Murray have kept that pick instead? In hindsight, sure - but at the time, Murray was targeting someone else and when that guy went off the board the Sens pulled the trigger on a deal to swap the 16th overall pick for Rundblad (who Ottawa had wanted the year prior) - and that was a deal agreed to the day prior to the draft. If he and Schwartz (who knows how to score, and really knows how to set up guys) manage to develop chemistry in the future, ... that could be a dangerous duo for years to come.
As former head of amateur scouting Jarmo Kekalainen said back at the 2010 draft, "if his name was Walt Smith, he would have been long gone at 16." |

The year the Blues traded for that #16 pick there were still plenty of questions about whether or not Tarasenko would ever even come over. Yes I know he said he wanted to play in the NHL, but that and $7 will get you coffee at Starbucks. |

i guess the referees are going to let them play - unless it's a minor bump, in which case then they'll get the whistles out. |

The new rule (no handling the puck) should be written much better - because when the player gets shoved down on the puck and "gloves it" to himself, that's a lot different from "I fell down ad the puck is near me, I'm going to glove it around to my teammate."
Nashville's not quite in a defensive shell, but they're making sure they've got 3 guys back whenever possible. We're going to have to spread the defense and use our speed to get the puck around and create space near the net. |

lol @ Hornqvist whining about Backes digging at Rinne's pads. I don't think ironic is the right word, but it's certainly through the looking glass |

The Backes line really needs to make something positive happen. Lots of skating, a little pressure, but no real chances tonight. we also need the Berglund line to go from "shutdown defense" to "dominate offensively, too" soon.
... and as I hit "send" Pietrangelo socres from a bad angle, after a very good shift from Tarasenko-Schwartz-Steen.
Blues 3, Predators 3. Tarasenko with a goal and a pair of assists tonight. |

Much better 3rd period - enough to get to OT and guarantee we get a point.
3rd period scoring
6. ST. LOUIS, Alex Pietrangelo 1 (Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz), 12:10.
Shots on goal: St. Louis 14-9-10=33, Nashville 6-8-10=24.
Like I said in the write-up for tonight's game, Nashville has done well against us in extra time. Getting a point on the road is nice, but it would be great to get out of here with the 2nd point and head to Chicago with a matchup of undefeated teams. |

No scoring, in the OT, so we go off to the shootout (because someone decided we have to have a winner in every game). Quick, everyone - kiss your sister (or brother, as the case may be)! |
