On behalf of Leafs Nation, nobody hated him. Seemed like a very nice young man, and Leafs Nation really wishes him well.
Further to Jsaq's post, expectations were too great.
But at the end of the day, he lacks footspeed. He does some nice stuff out there like big hits, which makes you really, really want the guy to do well.
But the lack of footspeed will keep rearing its ugly head. You'll soon see what I'm talking about.
But look on the bright side: you didn't give up much to get him. - Atomic Wedgie
Under the pressure of the NJ forecheck he moved pretty good to extract himself and protect the puck. One of the better 'passers' and stayed pretty composed.
I guess I'll have to get a better sample of his play.

this game was definitely the most worrisome for you guys, but i still dont think its time to panic yet. there is way too much talent on this team for it to be a bottom feeder. watching the flyers PP right now seems like watching the pens one that has been the majority for the last few years. an obscene amount of talent but the simple play just often isnt there for some reason |

Just don't make any panic trades for players that won't help the team in 3+ years. None. Do the opposite if things keep sliding. Build for 3+ years. great young offensive nucleus. - jstross
Honestly, I think if we are out of it at game 20 I dump vets for picks.. If we are out of it.. sink to the bottom.. none of this barely miss stuff. |

F yeah! How awesome would it be to have an 07 like season and grab that stud? It's only 48 games!! - Just5
The top 5 of this draft all look like superstars and there is a ton of high end depth after. If this is another crap year, it won't be without a reward this time. |

The net result of that season from hell is what some think is a third pairing defenseman. Tanking seasons when you haven't won a Championship in going on 40 years isn't really the best of ideas. |

Holy crap don't bring that up around some posters in here. Once he's in orange in black it's a while different story!! - Just5
It's quite clear that after watching Luke Schenn play 3 games. His footspeed is not an issue. Recognizing what was actually the issues in the past, may be a problem for some.

the former comment, totally agree. The latter, this isn't Coaching. This is simply a team that isn't playing well as a whole. - MJL
The only reason I blame coaching it that this team has consistently started slowly regardless of personnel for 3 years now and Lavy has failed to adjust his game plan game plan when it isn't working. Look at his record against the Devils, Lightening, and Rangers, whom the Flyers haven't beaten since 2010 I think. |

No question about it. Skating is not an issue with Luke Schenn.

I just don't like the makeup of this team right now. I don't want to say grit, because that's so over used. But, a certain anger or chippiness is missing from this lineup.
I almost think it would be worthwhile to have a bit less talent and maybe some more emotion. Maybe find a way to get Sestito in the lineup, or something.
I don't know. They're just missing a BAD ATTITUDE. |

They won't tank. But they could be lottery bound. A much better year for it. And it would be only 3 months of this. Not that I'd want it to happen |

It seems to be a Flyer hallmark. They were a slow starting team under Stevens also. I don't think they really started slow this game. They had an early breakdown, but the first period was by far their best period of the game. The effort level dropped off substantially in the 2nd after the Kovalchuk PS goal.
How does a Coach changing a game plan, change the effort level he gets from his players at the start of a game?

Then combine the picks to get as many lottery chances to gain high picks. I agree 100%. Fklyers have a good enough nucleus to turn the ship around quickly and in perpetuity if they don't panic.
Crazy question I think was asked and answered, but foggy on it. Can the FLyers trade Briere to a team with an unofficial handshake that the team will buy him out so the Flyers can resign him at a lower AAV? |

Capt EO said it best. They are missing the swagger that Pronger and Jagr brought, and even Briere brings in his own way. |

Maybe we are relying on to many young kids to step up and are missing some veteran leadership upfront...to young?? |

They definitely could be lottery bound. But there are no guarantees to land the top pick as a few years ago proved.
Looking forward to seeing what type of guts this group has Thursday night. |

They just aren't playing well. That's all it is. They did not respond in the 2nd period tonight. One player isn't going to change a team wide issue. You're right, they lacked emotion and fire after the first period.

yeah, other than Simmons and Harts I don't see much of a swagger at all.
Not even from G, which is disappointing.
