100% agreed. Too many kids, not enough ATTITUDE. - FlyerGuy
Definately.
I am not talking about a fire sale but the mix has to be changed up. I would do it in the summer personally.
The D in particular, is too streaky. That and I find the forwards to be a weird mixture overall. |

If Lava gets fired for the rag tag crew Holmgren put on defense that is brutal.
If this team had the talent I would consider it, but look at the lineup and compare it to the other top teams. They simply, are not that good. Whatever happens this season happens imo. See which of the kids still have balls by the end, and which of them have given up. - flyer_nutter
I don't think Laviolette will get fired in season. Hell if they start 0-10 it's possible, if they miss the playoffs he will be gone. And the likely scenario is that Bryzgalov will be bought out if they miss the playoffs.
Starting from scratch with a new coach, system, and goalie is the likely result of an underachieving season. |

You think Phx would bite on a Read centered deal for Yandle?
I'd hate to lose Read but it'd save the Yotes some cash, something they've been rumored to be looking to do with Yandle. - hereticpride
It would have to be Read and a whole lot more. If you're going to try and obtain any other teams young top player. Expect the asking price to include one of your top young players. Which means B. Schenn or Couturier.

And they have to be willing to pay millions to Briere and carry a Cap hit for the next 4 years, just to allow the Flyers to re-sign Briere at a lower Cap hit, after they buy him out. - MJL
Ok, I must not understand the new buyout rule. Based on your response, Contracts that are traded are no longer able to be bought out? That's ashame I could've seen teams with all solid contracts gaining picks by picking up contracts teams wanted to dump. |

I think any deal for a Yandle, Subban level defenseman starts with Brayden Schenn or Couturier.
Not totally against that kind of cost, but they have to be smart. |

Which to me in 48 game season is a huge overpayment for what is probably available. |

The mix is definitely off, imo.
That's not the end of the world of course. It happens to a lot of teams, and it's not the most difficult thing to fix either. |

Regardless of how this Season turns out. The Flyers in some cases already know what they need to add. Other players will be evaluated. These 3 games haven't changed any of that.

Nah. I mean he offer-sheeted Weber and offered Suter 100 million. He didn't make the mistake of overpaying for Carle. He went out and got the best he could for JVR... Cant really blame him. It is what it is. Sigh. |

No, I made a mistake in my reply. The team buying out Briere in a compliance buyout would not have a Cap hit for Briere. But they still would be responsible financially. Regardless it's a far fetched and unlikely scenario.

I set me expectations low from the start.
Short season. Rag tag crew on D that lacks transition skill. Aging Kimmo and Coburn can be streaky as hell, he always has been. The forwards are a weird mixture.
They ended off last season with alarming trends. Its just continued.
It is however 3 games in. Things can change. I know they all have to play better but someone has to step up. Where are the Flyer teams of old where a leader would fight to wake up the team. Throw a big hit, make a big play. Not enough of that. |

they just don't seem focused. they're sloppy. lack of attention to detail. not real energetic. and every mistake is costing them. bryz is playing well. none of these losses are on him. hard to win when you score 3 goals in 3 games. |

Whats really telling to me is the PP.
It just screams panic, they look like that to me overall. I do think not having a guy like Jagr or Pronger is hurting them. Sure they have leadership, but after Briere and Kimmo who is there really?
Many a few seasons ago were calling for Hartnell's head... |

I totally understand the frustration of the start of the Season. But it is far too early and very premature to start talking about firing Coaches and making panic trades. This is for the most part a young team. With a lot of young players in key roles. It is a process. Nothing has changed about that. Make a move if it is the right move, and it best for the long term for this team. This is not an older team that should be making moves just to try and win now. Everyone take a deep breath. The phrase that it's never as bad as it looks right now is true. 3 games in. 45 to play. Give it some time. |

All fair. This is most likely Kimmo's last season. Barring a blockbuster trade they will enter next season with nothing close to a top pairing d-man. Hard to win without that type of player. |

To me it all comes back to the D. Far too slow. The outlet pass in the neutral zone is getting by them 9 times out of 10. Forwards are having to scramble to be the guy back on the rush because the D is too slow or out of place. Pucks are being dumped in with no rhyme or reason only for the opposition to set up coming the other way.
We need a fleet of foot puck mover plain and simple. |

Fair enough. I still don't know the in's/out's of the new CBA and $$ and cap space changing hands. I'm sure smarter minds than me are reading the fine print and ready to work any angle. |

+1. No short term moves unless it also helps longer term. |

Id trade one of Cooties or Schenn for the #1 pick and Jones.
Try Kimmo for one more year and roll out.
Not perfect but I was called crazy for being willing to trade Schenn and Cooties for Weber. |

That is certainly a need for this team. Even if they started out 3-0, it would be a need. But that isn't why they are currently 0-3.
