I'm looking for some substance and something from you that backs up your statements. Every team loses a player here or there every year. You completely dismiss the young and upcoming talent on the Flyers. And completely dismiss the growth factor of those young players. It's not as if the Flyers were decemated by offseason player losses. - MJL
If you can't dismiss young growth, you also can't dismiss the aging/declining factor that can occur to an older player like Timonen. When you couple that as well as injuries to your young up-and coming players like Bourdon and Gustafsson, minus the loss of your 2nd best puck-moving tunstile, then yes, they've lost a bit on the back end.

Not at all. Your opinion wouldn't be dismissed as easily if you'd expand on it.
You wrote this team off before the season started. Why not expand on that, or explain your reasoning? There's plenty of folks I disagree with, but when they go deeper than one sentence replies it fosters conversation, rather than somebody whose sole intention is to complain about things to get a rise out of other posters.
Sheesh, we've gone through this every year since the 2007-08 season ended. How will they replace the scoring of Umberger, Lupul, Carter, Knuble, Richards, Upshall, Leino, Gagne, etc.? Relax and let's find out. - Flyskippy
Im not worried about it. Name a team that loses talent and wins a cup though?
This team is too soft. The east is filled with team that have toughness throughtout their lineup. The Flyers don't have the physical nature thats going to be needed to match up with these other teams over a short season.
The Flyers do not match up well with Boston, Rags, Pitt or even Buffalo right now. Even the Isles overhaulede their team to add muscle.
I know its two games, but I don't think the make-up of this team has a shot to take down the top 3. Hope I am wrong.

They absolutely have lost quite a bit on the back end. That said, look around the NHL. There's a lot of teams that have questions on their bluelines. Even with his age, Timonen can still play at a high level. It's easy to forget that most of the Flyers defensemen haven't played since May, which accounts for the rust and lack of cohesion.
The other thing we all know is, the GM is not exactly a shrinking violet. He's not the type to sit on his hands if he can make a move to help the team. Perhaps if Darcy Reiger was sitting in that seat, we'd have a justification to not expect a bold move.

Everyone's opinion matters. But it certainly helps if an opinion can be explained and supported by solid reasoning. Rather then just making blanket statements that they can't win, or a player does nothing for me. Then there is some substance that can be discussed,

Every team has some sort of roster turnover from the year before. Very rarely is an entire team the same from year to year. It's how a team replaces the talent it lost that is the key.

Seriously?
Both Schenns, Simmonds, Hartnell, Talbot, Rinaldo, Coburn, Grossmann, Meszy, G...

Not sure toughness is what the Flyers are lacking. It just may be that the Flyers aren't as good as NYR, Pitt, or Boston. That could very well be the case. Have to give it more than 2 games to find out though.
Dressing Sestito over McGinn isn't likely to factor in the outcome of the game tonight, or any game for that matter. Flyers have to have their top players playing well.

Gotta disagree here. I think the forwards have alot of grit with Talbot, Schenn, Rinaldo, Hartnell, Simmonds adn G. The D on the other hand has big bodies but besides Luke not alot physical play for their size.
I like Sestito because of his size and skating for a big man bu I want to see Mcginn. Only for the reason i dont know much about him. Can anyone give some insight?
"I thought I played good games," Bryzgalov said. "You know, it's not my job to see what's going on in front of me. I've got to concentrate on my work and stopping the puck. The rest of the stuff, I'll let the coaches take care of it." - Flyers_01

I appreciate that.
Im at work dodging excavators and cranes, so I try to keep it short.
Not to sure anyone cares for me to expand. I love the flyers just as much as anyone here. I wish they could win 48 games. I feel im being real with my expectations when I say I dont expect much from them this season.
For us in the atlantic division we make moves to compete within the divison. New york and Pitts both got better. We took a step back, to allow the younger plauers to develop.
Imo, we would have to get some incredibley easy playoff matchups to win the cup this year. Im talking like avoiding nj/pitt/nyr/bos.

To win a Cup you eventually have to play the best teams. You talk about replacing talent, what did NJ do to replace Parise?
Not trying to be argumentative, just raising some points to your earlier statements.

I agree, Timonen is not the player he was 5 years ago. And he's had some physical issues lately. And the bottom line is that as long as he is healthy, he is still a very good defenseman in this League. Look at last year's Cup teams. Other then Doughty, which defenseman on those teams are better the Timonen?
If Carle is a turnstile, then how can you say they lost anything there? Contradicting yourself there a little.
There are two players on the defense that are going to have to step up on the offensive end. That is Coburn and Meszaros. Neither appears to be in top game shape right now. But Meszaros play in the first two games was very encouraging for the injury he is recovering from. Gustafsson should be back at some point. They need to find out if he can be a regular in the lineup.
And it's very likely they may need to make a move or two for the future of this team. But that is always true of teams on the rise.
Nj didnt get better. Its their system that I hate. The flyers cant seem to figure the trap out.
Talent wise we are the better team. - Flyersgod
NJ doesnt even trap. They forcheck the hell out of you. They were 2 men deep on the forcheck at every chance last postseason. They didnt sit and wait for you to come to them.. they were on top of you as soon as you touched the puck.
I sure did. Talbot is about as gritty as they come.. Coburn and Meszy are both very strong and more than capable of playing a mean game. - jak521
i agree with talbot but i would say Timmonen more than meszy and Coburn. Timmonen is not a big hitter but plays the body even though more for position better imo
The thing that is so mind boggling to me is the fact that people dismiss the possibility of midseason moves. - jak521
I believe the trade deadline is April 3 this year. Flyers have only a dozen games after April 3. I believe we will see a fair amount of trading before the deadline. Teams can't afford to wait this year. I hope if the Flyers do start slow that a panic trade isn't made, just for the sake of doing something.
