I think faceoffs are a HUGE part of the game
When u lose a draw u have to chase the puck around to get it back instead of dictating play... That expends a lot more energy... And in a season w so many games in such a short period, that will come into play
And to your point about the penalties,
You committ a lot more penalties when u don't have the puck as opposed to when u do...
Generally, teams that are really good at faceoffs are pretty successful
It's not the only factor of course, but an important one

I'm not going to say it's never happened, but I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that got traded midseason and just retired instead of reporting where they were supposed to go. I think it's a pretty poopty thing to do in general. It's part of the game. If you don't like that, then you shouldn't be playing in the first place.

I'm curious as to what they do when Gerbe and McCormick come back. You can waive/send down Ellis for one but what happens for the other one?

I bet the send Grigo back to JR if he doesnt turn some heads on Thurs/Fri.....or waive McCormick. I hope they dont do either, just my hunch.
