So Winnipeg gets a loser point last night and Boston gets 2 for winning the shootout but we win in regulation and get the same 2pts. In this truncated season the OT/SO games are going to have more of an effect than ever before. The NHL really needs to revisit this system and maybe give the loser ZERO if they lose no matter how the outcome came to be. I would even go as far as to say the winner of the shootout should only get 1pt., winning in regulation needs to be more valuable. - LamontSanford
The Sabres are lucky to win last night. The played 20 minutes of so;id hockey. The fact that Toronto is terrible is the only reason we won. We defiantly need to be better on the dot, and we need to play a more disciplined style of hockey. Being tough does not mean taking dumb penalties. We would lose the majority of the time if we take 10 minor penalties.

There will be a lot of games won dirty this year on the back half of games on consecutive days, not just by us but by everyone.

Difference between a good team and a bad one is finding ways to win those dirty games when the other team is out skating you
Bang the body, convert your chances, get good goaltending, clear the zone as quickly as possible...
That'll lead to a lot of wins
Still, we were bad on the DOT. Ennis was horrible, Hodgson got thumped, the rookie is the only one who looked OK. - JohnTucker7
CoHo is playing well this year and I hate to mess that up, but I'd like to see 25 get a shot with some better offensive players. MAybe give him a shift or 2 each night with Pommer and Vanek, or let Pommer double with Ott and Grigorenko a couple times. Either way, last night 25 was playing with Ellis. Ellis may be the worst player in the entire NHL. He has no business on the team. I can't wrap my mind around how the Sabres continue to put him out on the ice, and I KNOW, HE IS A NICE GUY!

We have been pretty bad on faceoffs every since Drury & Briere left
Goose was very good, Roy was ok, Connolly & Hecht were two of the worst in the league
The tough thing right now is that it appears our two best faceoff guys are on the same line (Ott & Grigorenko)...
Hodgson I think will develop into a decent faceoff guy
Ennis I'm not so sure
I think/hope we'll see Ott taking more & more important faceoffs, even if it means winning a draw & then coming right off so Ennis can jump on... Although I might be talking outta my ass there bc that doesn't seem to be Lindys style at all

Winning faceoffs is only a small part of the game. I would have pointed to the penalties before I pointed to the facoffs. That being said, they managed to overcome all of it and come out on top. Good teams do that. Bad teams use those as excuses as to why it wasn't their fault they lost.
I think this team may have turned the corner a bit. The mentality of the team is so much different. Removing Roy and inserting Ott is a big part of the reason why.

Other than Hecht, everyone was over 50% against Philly. So it's not as bad as everyone thinks.

I cant believe Lindy didnt put 25 with 21&63 when 82 was in the box for fighting.
Give the kid a look with some better players, and even if its on the wing for a few shifts.
Instead he plays him with Hecht, Kaleta and Ellis... what?

If 25 doesn't play with better players, I believe he is gone after his 5 games & Lindy is only giving him a taste of the NHL.
Honestly, there is no reason to keep him here if he is buried on the third line getting 10 minutes a game.

He'll be sent down as soon as Gerbe is ready
I'm curious to see what happens with McCormick?
At this point, we've been more than physical enough without him
Someone else pointed out that if we send Grigorenko back we are one injury from Hecht as our #2... Great point...
Grigorenko isn't going anywhere
If we decide to stick w 8defensemen, McCormick is prob the odd man out
With Pardy having cleared waivers, and McNabb a capable call-up, I think we need to trade Brennan if the plan is to sit him in the press box...
Lots of teams would like to get their hands on a young "offensive" defenseman, but he'll lose value the more he sits out
If we aren't going to move him then I'd like to see him get a chance in the line-up sooner than later- he could do nice things on the PP w that shot of his
