Only saw the first and the 2nd period up to the penalty shot.
I thought Luke Schenn looked better last night. Quick effective outlet passes when he had the puck and was being pressured.
That is all the good I can come up with right now.
I cant' get behind the idea of "tanking".
I want them to win every game, or bust their asses trying to win when they lose.
On the first PP unit, I know it had success last season.
But if tweaking things I think I would consider moving Voracek to the second unit as he is the one getting the most good shooting opportunities on his point/half wall opposite Giroux, and his shot is not great and seems not to be getting through most of the time. Maybe try Mezzy or even Foster in that spot. The second PP unit could use another puck possession guy like Jake to get the puck up the ice and set up.
I'm reaching a bit, but that is what I saw. - Marc D
I probably started watching when you stopped I think. I didn't see Brodeur make one strenuous save. |

Fun?
Fun is hauling ass out of bed for a job interview when it's -30 something outside, your truck sounds like it wants to puke its guts all over the driveway when you go to start it, and there is an accident at every. Single. Intersection. Around. Where. You. Need. To. Go. - MunsterMike
Huh, sounds like I had a rather 'fun' morning, then. |

I'm not calling anyone an idiot. The problem with tanking is, under the lottery rules, you could end up being the worst team in the NHL and not get Jones. - Jsaquella
I know the risk but your more than likely to get 1 or 2....either mckinon or jones |

LOL
only giroux could survive that....personally id rather them not blow it up, but tank instead so that they dont have to...id hate to see some knee jerk reaction and them trade coots or schenn and still not guarantee to make it. |

I actually liked their play in the first period. The Flyers had the majority of the puck possession, even if they weren't generating a huge number of "good" scoring chances, they were skating better then the Devils.
The first goal was a cluster f and the second almost as bad.

I went overboard how exactly?
If you wish to believe the team will win it all this season based on the lineup by all means that is your choice.
While I would love for it to happen, I prefer to live in reality. The team needs star power on D, and to improve the transition aspect from the back end. Forwards need a veteran brought in. - flyer_nutter
I don't beleive this team is a true Cup contender. It needs a #1 defenseman, and it needs its young player to continue to grow and advance. That doesn't mean that this team can't be competitive, and make the playoffs. And once you get in the playoffs, anything can happen. |

toughest save he mad was on (Simmonds?). He did the MB patented sliding pad stack and the shooter didnt elevate it enough. Had the time and the entire top half of the net, but not the elevation. Other than that, i dont remember anything that stood out to me. |

Interesting because I see the Flyers playing in mud.
It is supposed to make the game faster. However when you have a bunch of slow defensive D, that sucks ass in the transition game you get what we have seen through the first 3 games. - flyer_nutter
That isn't why the you get what we have in the first 3 games. We've gotten that because the team as a whole, with few exceptions, simply ins't playing well. This team is a better team then they're showing right now. Tell me which player is playing great Hockey right now. Or forget great, how about just playing well? Simmonds, Meszaros and Bryzgalov. That's about it. |

That's what they were saying on the radio but they honestly looked like they quit in the third and that's what bothers me today. When Laughton was out there I noticed him because there was effort. Finally it devolved into the skirmish nonsense and when that happens you know the team's given up.
I didn't see more than a handful of minutes this weekend but they had to have played better than what they dumped on the ice in the period plus I watched Tuesday. |

We talked about last year being a "retooling" year but were surprised by how well and how much of a load the young/new guys contributed. Many of these guys have produced yet and their level of play has dipped. If this had been last year and Coots played like this, many would be clammering for him to be sent back to jrs. We may very well experience growing pains that we didn't expect. I want Homer to be patient and let things unfold. If its a down year, so be it but I think it will make the young guys better and stronger in the long run, IMO

I would say the lack of intensity started after the Kovalchuk PS goal. They didn't fight back much after that. Once NJ clamped things down. |

Yes, that was in the first. I saw that in the highlights. I think I remember him going down once in the third. Mezaros took a tremendous shot from the point and Brodeur went down. The shot was three feet wide of course. |

It is like they are really frustrated by NJ right now.
I hope they don't fall behind and do the same thing against the NYRs.
Just want to see them compete. They have good players, but the confidence is not there and they seem a bit fragile right now. Having Jagr last year I think mentally helped them. Kind of what Bill said in his blog (he gave credit to Capt EO, without Jagr and Pronger around they lost some swagger).
A few good bounces and hard work can turn it around. |

I agree. Nothing is going right for them now. Most of it their own doing. They are squeezing the stick and hesitating on offensive chances. Struggling in all areas. One good start and maybe a fortunate bounce can turn it all around. This is when someone has to step up. To stop this from snowballing into more then just a slow start to the Season. |
