yeah thats a pretty dumb scenario: "lets give a 23 year old 4.25 million dollars and see what he can do" - Flyers4Life88
You sure throw the word "dumb" at Homer a lot. I think you are using the wrong terminology. Perhaps you could say, "This is another move with which I take umbrage." |
|
|
|
That would be a tough one to swallow. But you have to think about it. If anything else PK Subban would be an absolute fan favorite here. The need is certainly there - Just5
yeah for a GM known for making bold moves....this would def make a statement and show the league and more specifically teams in our division that we arent messin around |

it seems like homer just bends over and takes it - Flyers4Life88
If that's what it seems like to you then I would suggest the issue is with the one making inferences rather than what his moves imply. |

i dont agree with giving the GM position to former players, idk just me. it's a business and business should be conducted by business professionals not former 3rd line goons |

dude taylor hall is a bonafide number 1 overall pick 97 pts in 128 games (first 2 seasons)?! are u kidding. - Flyers4Life88
Not comparing the two but same principal applies. They are not paying Hall $6 million a year for 7 years to miss 15-20 games & score at a 0.75 points per game clip. They are paying him $6 million to be a the 40+ goal scorer & over a point per game player he has the potential to be. |

I really like Couts. I dont think they need to go down that road. I still think if your talking Couts, it's a short sighted move. If they start off 2-10 they just need to throw a huge F this at this season and really start hunkering down and evaluate which players want to be here. They have some pieces to ship out at the trade deadline.
In all seriousness I dont think their coverages in their own zone have been that bad. The O zone and neutral zone have been sloppy. If it's not awful decision making it's indecision. The D zone and PK they are close to fixing. |

yes the principal applies, and injuries are unforeseeable true... but i feel that he has shown more value and more of a skill set in his first 2 seasons than JVR that deems the contract more bearable. there will always be a risk when u give a player 6 mil. |

Count for me the number of businessmen who are GMs of a professional sports franchise.
Oh and Holmgren played on the first line with Linseman and Propp. |

He did show more promise which is why they gave him $6 million over 7 years and not $4.25 million over 6. |

I don't think I have ever seen so many decent passes fumbled or not handled cleanly as I have over the past three games. To me that speaks to lack of concentration, not bearing down and making sure you get that pass.
It is akin to running before you make the catch and then dropping the ball.
Add to that the WAY too numerous times where a Flyer tries to stick handle through 4 opposing players when trying to enter the offensive zone and you have a nightmare.

It's kind of dumb to generalize. If a guy knows hockey well enough, you can always hired a guy as assistant GM who can handle the contract side of it. Look at a guy like Jay Feaster. He's a businessman, and after winning a Stanley Cup with Rick Dudley's players, he overpaid three of them and watched the team crumble, then goes to Calgary and hands out more NTCs than Holmgren and builds a team that is consistently the 10th best in his conference.
Hell, Brian Burke is a former player AND a bussiness guy...how'd he fare in Toronto? |

heres a quesiton how do you think homer is going to resign G, couts and schenn?! how im sayin 7 plus for G, 3.5 plus for couts 3.5 plus for schenn?
there was a instant void needed to be filled through the loss of pronger and he didnt fill it - Flyers4Life88
it will definitely be tough. its hard to keep top young talent together for too long. someone eventually leaves. however tough as it is, it is that much tougher when you have someone such as carle making 5.5 million dollars on your team |

thats what i mean the position is usually always reserved for a former player, its like a unwritten rule...
and so hockey experience makes one more qualified for the position. then why do u pay scouts all that money to evaluate talent if the the GM (a former player) should be able to do the same damn thing |

Two things I wanna say...
If they really did plan on moving jvr, I would have easily put him towards weber and not a deal that gets you Brayden Schenn older brother straight up.
As for this team. The Flyers aren't currently a pile of crap. To the Pens, Sabers and Devils credit, they are good teams. The flyers were in these games, they just don't have the finish. They should get some finish. if people want to fantasize about Bobby Ryan, I have no problem with that. we probably should fantasize about a player like that right now. |
