Yes that is a product of trading draft picks. Like you said all the Flyers prospects are in the NHL already. The talent level at Adirondack is pretty depressing. - PLindbergh31
Dont worry though.. its been 3 games. |

That's ok, the world will just make a couple new sockpuppet accounts and start again tomorrow. - BulliesPhan87
It's as cyclical as a 3 game losing streak and the trading of the entire team to Toronto for the Marlies. |

Are you going to trade depth for depth.

This sucks. I have zero feeling of optimism right now...at least a bad finish would be during a deep draft. - Jsaquella

Okay I see where you coming from but kind of apples and oranges. It's still way too weighted in my opinion. If A-train falls backwards, stumbles and smacks the back of his head off the dasher and is out for the rest of his career, that makes it more punishable?
If I shoot a bazooka at you but slightly miss, are you more pissed at me then if I shot you in the foot with a slingshot? The intent should have more to do with it than the result. - GirouxForTheShow
I realize the example was extreme, but that's what I came up with at the time on the way out the door. And yes, if an illegal check results in a players suffering a career ending injury, the punishment should be worse then if there is no injury. There's a reason why there are minor, double minor, and major penalties. And definitely, intent is a major factor. Two hits that result in the same severity of injury, where the evidence suggests that one hit was made with the intent to injure, versus one that was accident. Absolutely the one with intent to injure should be punished more severely. |

agreed. and IIRC my old physics classes, don't you actually reduce the velocity of force by leaving your feet? if that's true and the hit does not touch the head, the whole concept is BS. - isaiah520
It's not BS, because leaving your feet to deliver a check is an illegal hit.

Understood and I agree, just feel that the NHL harps so much on the 'injury' that they over look the 'intent to injure'.
Good analogy though. |

I guess now is as good a time as any.
The three game skid isn't a big concern, but guys are dropping like flies and God only knows the pressure that will be applied to Holmgren. It's just a lot of negatives piled on top of one another.
It's not the end of the world, but it seems like since the lockout ended it's been one gut punch after another. |

Jason Arnott and Mike Knuble are FAs, but they'd have to clear contracts out to sign them. |

Here is the Holmgren statement.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren gave an injury update on Flyers forward Scott Hartnell:
"Scott will be out indefinitely with a left foot injury. We will know more on this within a day or two as we await results of tests."
If they don't have the results of the tests, how can Holmgren proclaim Hartnell out indefinitely. Doesn't seem to jive. - PLindbergh31
Indefinitely is pretty self explanatory. It means that he will be out for an undetermined period of time. And after the tests are done, they'll have a better prognosis and timetable.

The Rangers roster isn't as good as I thought.
Their top two lines are solid, and their top 2 d pairings are very good, and of course Lundqvist...
But they have a 7th D-man in Stu Bickel on their fourth line, and their third pairing of Eminger and Stralman stink.
I think I like the Bruins, and Pens roster a little better top to bottom. |
|

|
I always took 'indefinitely' to mean that the amount of time is "not definite" (as in, they don't know). After the test results come back, they can give a more precise timetable. - tangent_man

I would be fine with that, he brings leadership, he wins faceoffs and he's probably get you 10-15 goals at least - FreshFlyer
Arnott getting 10-15 goals in a 48 game Season? Not likely. That would be scoring at a 26 goal pace in an 82 game Season.

I think the NHL's bigger issue is consistency. Star players can get away with terrible offense with little or no punishment. I get that these are often acts of frustration and not indicative of the players whole career, but when you're trying to influence the culture of the sport away from dangerous headshots, you have to punish acts of frustration too.
Slapping Raffi Torres with a twenty-whatever game suspension really doesn't send a message in my mind. Except, of course, "Well it's about (frank)ing time guys!" |
