I think Montreal would get killed by its fans for that trade. Most fans there would see it as trading one of their cornerstone pieces for a player who had one goal last year and some defenseman they never heard of.

Definitely true in regards to A-Mac. Not so sure about Nino since it's become understood that the Isles do a terrible job of developing players. Nino was pretty well known coming into the draft so he likely would be accepted. I do think the response would be mixed at best. I'm just not so sure that Subban's rep didn't become a bit of an exaggeration due to his 1st season.

LOL...This is why I don't get into these "what trade do you like" debates. Especially when people from other boards come in and start with their dream trade scenario's. We have no idea what Montreal wants or if they'd even entertain a trade to a team in their conference. Meanwhile, the Isles have drafted A LOT of defensemen over the last couple of years and aren't likely ready to deal one of their top end prospects to add another one to the mix.

We definitely need a shot from the point but I'm just not ready to say Subban is an elite dman yet. You're right that he has many of the qualities that you want. He's very strong and compact, good skating ability and a decent shot. I'm not really sure what his potential is at this point. I'm certainly not ready to deal a top end prospect like Nino for him though.

Look whether you call him elite or not doesnt matter. He has tremendous ability

who would you be willing to trade???
- LetsGoIsles

Mark Streit , "Andrew MacDonald, Lubomir Visnovsky, Josh Bailey, Michael Grabner , David Ullstrom, Calvin de Haan, Nino Niederreiter, Aaron Ness, Kirill Kabanov, Matt Donovan, KO , Mitchell Theoret

I'd be willing to use the above players in some sought of package for Subban. No not all of them.

A FAIR combination of course. There is some decent talent in that group. Some old some young.

Would you consider KO as part of a package for Subban
?

basically everyone other than JT, Strome, Reinhart...i agree..

i happen to think the trade which keaner addressed (which someone else made up) is pretty fair, at least from an islanders stand point.

subban is MUCH better than AMAC
Nino is more valuable than a 3rd round pick...

the way i see it, it pretty much balances out....

- SCLI

They have fought about 6 times, I think it is 5 - 1 Orr..But ya never know.

Tonight is a must win. DP playing against boston tomorrow. I feel like isles need 3 wins on this road trip to make it successful trip.

And i have no confidence in DP vs Boston.

The way I see it. You'd have a top 3 on "D" of Hamonic, Subban, & Reinhart,

Then you fill in with who ever develops into the Bottom 3. There is a lot to choose from Andrey Pedan, Scott Mayfield, Loic Leduc, Adam Pelech, etc....

Hey there's always the waiver wire!

Subban update... Subban and a 3rd rounder for Nino and AMac. (rumour)

Montreal wants closure before Sunday night's home game!!!

It's like a circus in Montreal right now!!!

- jimmc7722

I think that's too much. Two good NHL players potentially for one, no thanks. Subban isn't paul Coffey

My two cents :

Why give up a first rounder who's ready to make the jump to the NHL, and a Dman who logs big minutes and has chemistry with Hamonic.......and is paid the lleague minimum????

Why not just offer sheet Subban, and give up the first and third rounder who wont make the NHL for 3 years anyway. Its not like if you trade for Subban he comes with a contract. You still gotta sign him. Doesnt make any sense to give up actual prospects for him. WAYYYYY better off with an offer sheet.

- kindlyrick

He won't sign the offer sheet... afraid Montreal will match it!!

Bailey and Nino for Subban and a third is not a terrible deal at all, provided you get Subban to sign a long term deal. Maybe Subban isn't Shea Weber, but he's certainly a top two d-man on the Isles. He might even be our best "D" man if he were traded here, based on how you view Hamonic. Bailey isn't going to be an Islander past this season. Nino would be a big piece to give up, but you have to give to get.

I think the thing with Subban is he encompasses all the qualitites you want in a dman......and he hasnt even reached his potential. Whens the last time the isles had a threat from the point?

Originally I heard it was Bailey and Nino for Subban and a 3rd... but with Bailey being injured, it wouldn't work out right now.

Which I like alot more than AMac!!!

But Montreal needs to do something soon... fans cheer for Subban all game long.

The longer they wait, and if they start losing... it will get nasty!!!

Not sure... there was a rumour last night they have been offered a couple.

But a rumour is a rumour!!!

I like Subban, and think he would be a fantastic pick up for the Isles!!!

Even if you had to pay him 5 to 5.5 million/year.
