You're assuming...........put 30 million in front of him and see how quick he is to refuse that?

"It's come down to this - I want to be paid what I'm worth," Subban told Gazette columnist Dave Stubbs. "I don't even know what to think any more," he said. "At this point, you have to remain optimistic (and realize) it is a business, and a lot of things can happen.

"I hope (a trade) is not the case. I want to play for the Canadiens. I want to help the team. With the young players we have in the organization right now, we still have a great opportunity to win. But for my style of game and for what I do for the team, the amount of minutes I play and for what I bring to the table, I have to be fairly compensated."

The 23-year-old played the most minutes per game of any Habs defenceman last season, and is also one of the most marketable of the team's players. He is often featured alongside goalie Carey Price in team marketing campaigns.

"I didn't expect this to be an all P.K. parade. I didn't expect everyone to jump on my bandwagon to give me whatever I want," Subban said. "It's business and I understand that. But I've accomplished a lot in two years. If I hadn't, we wouldn't be talking, would we? This thing probably would have been over long ago.

"I've accomplished a lot for someone who's only 23. I'm playing in one of the best markets in the NHL. To me, it seems like a pretty easy situation: you have a guy who wants to be there, for a long time, who actually thrives on playing in the pressure of Montreal. I don't think there could be any more pressure than what I've had playing here the last two years.

Subban was asked by the Gazette if he could see himself playing for another team.

"From a business standpoint, I'm sure there are other teams where I could fit in and be a big part of things moving forward, give them a chance to win," explained Subban. "But ultimately, deep down inside, I want to play for the Montreal Canadiens.

"I want to be a big part of them. It's my bloodline. That's all I knew growing up. My dad was the biggest Habs fan. And I think that's something you don't let go."

I'm sure there will be a few offers for Subban... same for Benn, and O'Reilly.

Out of the 3... I like Subban.

Great personality... gives the team an identity.

He plays with heart.

Good friends with Tavares... might even bring him out of his shell a little...

I think moving to the new arena... it would be great for this team moving forward.

Plus... it would help from a PR point of view for our current mangement...

Not that they need it!!!

But I've accomplished a lot in two years. - PK Subban

exactly, it's two years. Take a 2 year, 4 mil per year salary and keep improving and you'll get your money and term later. At 23, he's not a superstar. His personality is quite large and he's marketable, but the guy is not someone I'd include in the top 10 defensemen in the league, maybe not the top 20. I don't think he's worth more than that. What's with players holding out for unrealistic numbers? Do you really need more than 3.5 or 4 million a year at 23?

I hear what you're both saying, but Nino is going to be exactly what the isles have lacked for yearsssss. A big strong power forward with skill.
That said, why not try and offer sheet him? You keep rostered players and give up draft picks which may or may not pan out.

Obv the Habs could match but wouldnt they have just been done with this before the puck dropped? They are 2.5-3 million off. I read they offered him 2.5 for 2 years (ala Del Zotto). 5 million for 5 or 6 ears should land him...

I'm not worried about niño. He will be a very good NHL player most likely. But you're right. He hasn't proved anything let

Your argument is forgetting that this is a business. Like he said for what he brings to the table he should be paid as such. He lead the team in minutes....and is their best dman. He shouldnt be paid like a 3rd or 4th dman He should get top 2 money.

I almost fell off my couch last night while watching highlights on the NHL network. They had McKenzie on and he actually sided with the Islanders on the Nino situation. While most of us agree with Snow for a change but it was still nice not to see the typical piling on regardless of the facts by outsiders

PEOPLE!!! Those who are regulars should know better. Those not familiar with this site/Islanders take note:
Garth doesn't trade. He scavenges. Like a big old dump(ster) bear in an Arctic town.
He thinks every players he drafted will be in the HHOF someday and is scared sheetless of trading away his toys to anyone. He's pretty much an idiot savant(minus the savant part) when it comes to dealing players, et al....

Lets not forget that his agent has a vested interest in Nino playing in the NHL. Until he plays in the show Nino will continue making AHL money........and his agent will get an AHL percentage. Clearly the money was the motivating factor.
