Marc Andre Bergeron ?

MAB had a heck of a shot but thats it. He was a liability out there. You cant just have one dimensional players. PK Subban has a bit of everything. Id love to have a guy like Hamonic on our team.......with a little more offensive upside.

I'm sure there will be a few offers for Subban... same for Benn, and O'Reilly.

Out of the 3... I like Subban.

Great personality... gives the team an identity.

He plays with heart.

Good friends with Tavares... might even bring him out of his shell a little...

I think moving to the new arena... it would be great for this team moving forward.

Plus... it would help from a PR point of view for our current mangement...

Not that they need it!!!

Your argument is forgetting that this is a business. Like he said for what he brings to the table he should be paid as such. He lead the team in minutes....and is their best dman. He shouldnt be paid like a 3rd or 4th dman He should get top 2 money.
- kindlyrick

how am I forgetting this is a business? Think before you make a stupid comment like that, I'm dealing with his value as a player, which isn't inflated like yours apparently is. You're assuming that he's worth that already, I disagree. 3-4 mil per season sure as hell isn't chump change and for 38 points, that's pretty damn fair. Streit scored 47 points last year, in a down year, is his salary grossly underpaid? I don't think so and I don't think Subban suddenly deserves more than that.

Streit was also the cause for 80 points going the other way last year. Subban is a better dman than Streit already

Streit is all offense........Subban is a more well rounded player. Regardless in order to land PK Subban you are gonna have to pay 5 millino a year for 5-6 years. Thats not grossly overpaying

Both are very offensive and weak on defense. While Subban be great for isles he doesnt seem worth the headache. I mean this kid thinks he is as valuable as Drew Doughty. Not worth the headache. If you give him 5.5MM a year. what will we have to give Hamonic when he needs a long term contract?

I think you give this Hickey kid a try. I think we will be pleasantly suprised.

wow, I go to lunch and there's too much to reply to. As I said, I think Subban is very good and I'd love to have him, but I think he's waaaaay overrated on this board. We have several defensemen that will be challenging for a roster spot within 2 years. There's no need to trade a talent like Nino or Kabanov for instant gratification. We're not going to challlenge for the cup next year regardless.

yes on yash.
no on DP. $4.5 is totally reasonable for a No. 1 goalie. Length too long. Injuries unforeseeable.

how is it that a top 2/4 NHL dman is overrated but a player like nino or kabanov who have either BOMBED in the NHL or hasnt played in the NHL are considered "talents"

Because Subban's value is largely based on his performance from two seasons ago. It's not like we're drawing on 5 years of consistent work here. Meanwhile Nino and Kabonov are both considered top prospects with elite skill levels. I'm not saying they're worth MORE than Subban, I'm saying that neither should be dealt for him for the sake of just doing so. The isles aren't going to contend for a cup this year. Another crop of free agents are just 46 games away and our chances to sign one are probably better than they have been in several years. There is no need to give up top grade prospects. We've suffered the last 5 years because our farm system was the worst in the NHL, devoid of any real prospects. Now we have 3 or 4 very good offensive prospects and suddenly folks want to find a way to deal one for a guy that had ONE very good season and a pretty decent follow-up.

and all of this means next to nothing since I can all but guarantee you will NOT see Subban in an Islanders uniform this year or next.

Lets not forget that his agent has a vested interest in Nino playing in the NHL. Until he plays in the show Nino will continue making AHL money........and his agent will get an AHL percentage. Clearly the money was the motivating factor.
- kindlyrick

don't know if I buy that. I would think Nino isn't the only player he represents... That being said, any good agent wants whats best for his client and playing in the minors is whats best for Nino at this current time.

The Isles organization, Nino, and the agent are all at fault in this instance. They all (frank)ing suck the same moose cock - at once.

290 pts in 346 games with the Isles with absolutely no help. I mean come on - he looks around and see's Aaron Asham, Oleg Kvasha, than Jason Blake. Yashin's deal would have worked out fine if management would have gotten someone to play with him.

Could you imagine going out for the opening faceoff with Asham and Kvasha on your wings?? Jesus tap dancing christ...

Im baffled by the argument that he's only had 2 good years in the NHL. He's shown what his ability is, and he's excelled at every level. I like those odds at him becoming a dominant d man for years to come.

2 years, 3, years who cares....playing well your first two years is a pretty good indication that the first year wasnt a fluke. I.E Sophmore slump......

Sidenote: Im pretty sure Grabner only had 1 good season under his belt and got a nice raise and extension.

He's part of the Montreal hype machine. His personality and team get him more attention than anything. Like I say, he's plenty good but not good enough for me to want to start pulling a Milbury on our prospect pool.
