One Season he averaged 22 minutes a game. Still doesn't add up to barely being able to hold a 3rd pair spot. 16 minutes is still a solid total. He's 23 years old. Development of young defenseman is rarely linear. It is normally ups and downs. - MJL
Wait now stats tell the whole story?

About 10 years ago, I attended a Millwall game in London. The motto of the fans is "Nobody Likes Us, We Don't Care." The stadium is exposed cinderblock. It's a scary, scary place.
A drunk in my section was screaming at Millwall's striker for the entire first half, saying things that would make a sailor blush. The entire section was horrified - particularly because he was doing this in front of his ten-year-old son, who seemed to be used to it, as he wasn't even blinking.
Millwall went down 2-0. Mr. Drunky was screaming to everyone how he should be in charge, he was the only one who knew what this team should do, etc.
And then Millwall scored 4 unanswered goals to win 4-2, with the striker in question getting a hat trick.
It was beautiful. - Atomic Wedgie
on second thought, let's not go there. 'tis a silly place. |

You think that's all he is worth? If that's the return, why in the hell would you trade him for that? |

Gee, a big veteran, who can go to the net and had 17 goals last year, capable on the PP and a decent faceoff guy...how does he not fit? Hartnell isn't fast, neither was Jagr. They fit well enough. |

Nothing wrong with the rest of your post, but what exactly is the first statement based on?
He was 7th in TOI/G last year for Leafs defencemen.
He was tied for 6th in shifts per game.
He was nailed to the bench in all important situations.
For a guy who is supposed to be a shut-down defender, he saw very little PK time.
The only reason he was in the line-up so much is because Ron Wilson had a burning hate for Franson.
Does the guy have potential? He sure does.
But let's be honest here: he was a bottom pairing or worse guy for the last two seasons in Toronto. - Atomic Wedgie
He played 79 games last Season. That's not barely holding onto a spot. That's a regular in the lineup. |

Well something happened???? How did he do in his first two? - Philly1980
I wish I had an explanation for you.
Various theories: he bulked up too much one summer, lowering his speed. Teams scouted him, and realized you just have to chip it past him. Wilson ruined his confidence (I'd put $10 on that one if I was in Vegas).
Funny thing is, this town can turn on a defenceman - we ran Larry Murphy out of town, and all he did is go on to win two cups with Detriot, making him the guy with the most cups in the 90s. We ran Bryan McCabe out of town. Hell, we ran Aki Berg out of town, although I'm quite proud of that.
But that doesn't apply to Schenn - everyone in Toronto still wants the guy to do well. In that sense, it was a good trade: both teams had guys who needed a change of scenery and a second chance.
JVR pots two goals and a helper last night.
So.....how many more nights should I expect him to take off before he has another good showing? |

Its an opinion.. you cant tell me 100% that he will work out.
I love arnott. I want them to sign him. Just going on record that I think he is a bad fit. |

I wouldn't call it "taking off". He's just been inconsistent throughout his career. Sometimes he's absolutely dominant and the next night he's a liability. |

He played 79 games last season because Liles was injured, and Komi was injured. You can argue that Komi was worse (no, really, go ahead, I won't stop you) but at the end of the day, Schenn was never really higher than 6th on the depth chart. |

They could add Crosby and I couldn't tell you 100% that it'd work out. No player is a guarantee. But dismissing him as a bad fit solely because of speed is ignoring what else has worked in this system before and what is missing now.
It also opens up a possible trade, now they can move a draft pick for a player. |

A late first Early 2nd at best - Just5
For two years, all Leafs Nation has heard is what a bust Kadri was. A favourite comparison was B. Schenn.
Now after 3 games, Kadri rhymes with Gretzky, and you guys want to push B. Schenn off a pier.
There's nothing wrong with either of them.
But hey, if you want to dump him for an early 2nd round pick, call Nonis.
Please. |
