Not sure that is an option for the Flyers. If they did extend an offer sheet, and Montreal declined to match, where would the cap space come from to add Subban?

Is there enough players who could be placed on LTIR to make it work?

- PLindbergh31

Someone said the Flyers have 100K + left on the cap. So it wouldn't work.

b.c. philly would be doing Bergvien's job...it make his job that much easier to match, rather than negotiate...what if a team offer lower then what the subban camp actually wanted, bergvien accepts and makes out better then what he hoped for
- Flyers4Life88

But wouldnt PK have to sign that offer sheet then? Meaning if Subban signs the offer sheet presented then MB has to match that offer. I dont think PK would sign an offer sheet lower than what he was looking for.

That's not the way it works. Subban has to sign the offer sheet. Why would he sign something lower than he wants?

We should have literally infinity billion dollars in LTIR credit available with all our injuries, though
- BulliesPhan87

$4m from Mesz, $4.2m from Hartsy, $4.936m from Prongs, $1.7 from Walker and $612,500 from MAB

Flyers havent used any LTIR yet, including Pronger which shaves off about 5 mil.

well, the player doesn't have to sign the offer sheet if it is lower then they want.
- Marc D

true...but still 5 yrs 30 million to a guy that was drafted in MTL been there his whole career, face of the franchise along with price...itd be a no brainer for bergvein to accept.

Is there a penalty for using it?

I heard PK and the Habs are way apart on length of the deal. Montreal wants to sign him for 2 years and PK looking for longer.

No idea how close they are on the money either.

Which makes another question, why exactly havent the Flyers put Pronger on LTIR? You would think he is pretty much done playing so dont see why the Flyers still have him counting on the cap. Maybe they want people to think they dont have money for any moves? Idk

the point is that any considerable offer sheet would be matched, and any lucrative offer sheet is outta the question...esp. with the cap going down next season.

i think the injuries to Gus and MAB are tough to swallow...they were two guys that played a ton last year and if were healthy would be the 6th and 7th

I'm assuming they'd only go into ~$6.7 million (Pronger & Walker) to get a guy like Subban which should be more than enough.

From what it sounds like he is wanting around 5 mil/season...MTL is more around 3 mil per.

Just checked and the Flyers only have $106,561 in cap space so an offer sheet seems highly unlikely.
- NickTheKid87

The Flyers have plenty of Cap space available if they use LTIR for Pronger and Walker.

There's no reason to put anyone on LTIR if you don't need to use the LTIR exemption.

Players on LTIR still count against the cap, you get get an exception that allows you to exceed the cap. There are penalties for using LTIR, which is why the Flyers are avoiding doing so for as long as possible.

Yeah but you force there hand like we did nashville. Either you overpay the player and they wont match and you get your player or they match and pay more then they intended. Its a win win other then you have to overpay to make it hard for Montreal to match. Trust me if Homer wants to make it uncomfortable for Bergvin he has proven he will do anything to get it done without hurting his roster

I believe he is LTIR, they're just not using the credit. They just haven't had a use for the LTIR credit yet.

even if he is place on LTIR he will still count against the Cap. LTIR is an exemption to go over the Upper LImit to replace a player. If you have enough Cap space, there is no reason to place a player on LTIR. Nothing to do with hiding money. Cap figures for teams are transparent.

People need to get over themselves. And the idea that this is somehow a "Russian" thing is absurd. Plenty of good ol' Canadian boys were celebrating in much more outlandish ways in the NHL in years past. I guess people don't remember stuff like this from Tiger Williams or Theo Fleury, but it happened all the time.

the thing is subban is asking for a lot, he's what 23 y.o? a guy like that SHOULD be making under 5 per..hell under 4.5 per, but to his credit he stayed healthy, put up points and was steady on the back end for MTL....if markov played last year and played decent, no way subban sees 5 plus, which i think he's def gonna get

So apparently the Rangers tweeted an article called "The Girls Guide to Hockey" and now there are some outraged (justifiably so) female fans. The Rangers have deleted the tweet.
