I kind of like Bill's earlier idea of maybe targeting young d-men who might already be on a NHL roster right now or in the minors and haven't reached their development (much like the Luke Schenn and Coburn trades). Guys come to mind off the top of my head - Ellerby (Panthers) , Rundblad and Gormley from the Coyotes.
The price might not be as steep to acquire as a guy like Subban and still be able to acquire a top 4 d-man. With that being said, it is time for Coburn to step up and assert himself like he did in the playoffs last year. I think his game is getting better with being able to knock the rust off. - ravishingone

Love what Wellwood brings to the lineup. I cant understand why hes not such a good AHL player but whatever I think hes a perfect fit for the Flyers. |

For some reason, some players are better NHL players then AHL players. No idea why, but Wellwood may be one of those players.

An example of when we acquired an underperforming, formally highly touted young D-man. It obviously didn't work out.
I actually like the idea anyway, I think Phoenix's cupboard is a good place to look first. |

Don't look now but our old friend Matt Carle just scored a PP goal for the Bolts. 3 points in 4 games or something like that for Carle so far. |

Only problem w/gamecenter is all the blackouts. they don't show any of the national tv games. other than that its a good deal. |

He's their lead defenseman. Getting a lot of icetime. He racks up a good amount of assists regardless. Playing on a PP with St. Louis and Stamkos, he's going to get his fair share. |

I foresee quite a few 4-assist games, like he had here. |

Maybe he feeds off being a pest to the NHL caliber player. At least thats what it looks like which I love, just more comfortable in his role |
