So what systems do the flyers use?
- Flyersgod

3-2 Press forecheck, weakside lock forecheck. First couple of games they used a basic 2-1-2 forecheck. Did you notice the Flyers changed the PP setup last game from the usual Overload formation to an Umbrella formation? Nothing complicated about it.

Lets not get into this again.. I think you guys are clearly clueless in regards to the importance of systems and you guys think that im placing to much importance of them.

Neither of us are gonna give.

Even if that was true.. wouldnt that mean systems are really important to the game?

If we teach kids these systems.. they are obviously important.

Have you played high levels of hockey?

- Flyersgod

I have not played a high level and that is really irrelevant. No one here has ever said systems are not important the way you are trying to insinuate. Teams obviously need systems so that everyone knows what everyone else is doing. But they are only successful if execution and basic universal hockey skills like passing skating and shooting are better than the opponent. In my opinion no system is any better than any other. It all comes down to execution. The team that executes better will win no matter what system they are playing.

Fair enough.. execution is just as important as systems..

The original argument was that systems are meaningless though..

I never meant for this to be about systems vs execution.. nor did I ever mention execution in that matter..

You are the one saying systems are meaningless. No one else here has said that.

How are we clueless about systems? Systems are important in that they give a team a structure to play with, and a strategy. So they know where the support is, what to do with the puck, where they're teammates are etc. But if systems were the be all to end all, then the team with the best system would win. That's not the case.

Execution is infinitely more important then systems. Nobody, myself included has ever said that systems are meaningless.

Yes, I did name 3. You asked what the Flyers used. The first two are the two they use most frequently. They used a less aggressive forecheck in the first two games. To speculate, I think it's because Laviolette wanted the team to get it's legs under them.

The original argument was never that systems were meaningless.

The original argument was that simply changing the system would be meaningless if the execution didn't improve. No matter what the system, if it's executed badly, it will fail.

I really like what I've seen from Luke Schenn so far. While I don't see him as being a speedster by any means. From what I've seen of his play so far, his lack of footspeed has been blown way out of proportion. Which is not surprising to me.

I can vouch for this - and we don't always see eye to eye (mostly because I am 4'2").

How about we sit still and let the season play on? I would prefer that - even though it's not the "sexy" move and doesn't spawn eons of talk over pages of internet threads.
