It also remains to be seen if Laughton is retained for the full year or returned to his junior team after Saturday's game.

I think Simmonds has earned the chance to play in Hartnell's spot for the time being and the idea of Knuble on Briere's line is pretty dicey on two fronts (defense primarily and offensive zone penalties secondarily). However, I think Knuble could start out with Briere and Schenn.

Sending Laughton back would create a necessity for guys like Talbot, Fedotenko and Wellwood to play up the middle, and they are all terrible at draws. Laughton hasn't exactly been cleaning anybody out at the dot, but he's still miles better than the aforementioned three.

As for Knuble, I'm not sure if he's even a lock to crack the top-12 forwards at this stage, much less the top-6. It would please me to see him in his 2012 playoff form (or better), but realistically speaking, he's probably more along the lines of an 6-10 min guy at ES (4th-line), and then spotted on special teams (both PP and PK). He's going to be a great asset in the room no matter what, which is the real upside of the signing.

I told you they'd win! And what a win it was! Great all-around effort and that 5-3 PK is one for the ages. I was especially impressed by the 4th line. Didn't expect them to come close to playing as well as they did. Nevertheless, it scares me that Mesz might miss an extended period of time with a UBI after he worked so hard to get back from a LBI. What a sick and twisted world we live in.

never a dull moment for the O&B. i'm happy to see Knuble back for the reasons you mention, and was sorry to see him go in the first place. he'll add some stability to the 2nd pp for sure. that he won't have to fit in with a new organization bodes well for both knuble and the team. fans love him. he knows the team, the city, etc. even when hartnell comes back, it will still be good to have his calming, experienced presence around this young group of players.

Scoob, you don't like Monty Python? Not one sketch?
That boggles my mind.

How about Matt Read, showing his versatility again.
He has enough skill to play with Giroux and not look out of place.
900K/yr guy, can play well on any line, PK, PP.
Give the Flyers scouts some props for signing this guy.

Yes, me too....of course now the talk radio is agog with Bryz not knowing what Flyers Hockey is....ya know instead of wondering where Knuble fits or who will replace Meszaros.

It's sad that after a good win, we have to debate a if guy who grew up in Russia knows what a term from the 1970s means.

When the Flyers win...playing Flyers Hockey

When they lose...not playing Flyers Hockey

Speaking of calming presence and leadership, Nik Grossmann really stood out to me last night.

His words and then play on the ice were the definition of leadership.

I don't like it when people say 'it is not Bryz's fault' when clearly he has been awful. But yesterday, he played a great game
- strongsupporter

clearly, he hasn't been awful. in any of the 4 games. he's been their best player. and he was against the devils in the playoffs, but it's fun to just blame the goalie because they lost.

The Flyers need to keep their lines in a similar way. Scoring Lines, Shut Down Lines, and a pound you line. It adds balance and a change of pace.

Sestito and Shelly played their role well.

I just want to point out the positive impact that having two right handed d-men on the blue line last night had on our puck movement. I cant remember the last time we were able to go point to point like that.. we kept the rags hemmed in their own zone for numerous stretches of play.. just because of the point to point passes..
- jak521

Jak's point about the right handed D men is very true.

It was a big factor in their play off series against the Devils, they didn't respect the point, and collapsed on G and the forwards, and shut down the Flyers PP.

Another little fix by Homer and crew that deserves some credit.

(I'm tired of all the bashing the last few days of the management, they try to win and spare no expense to put the best team out there every year, and I'm happy for that).

Funny, I got in this conversation at work yesterday. I'm a big Monty Python fan, but I can totally understand not liking it. The humor is often so dry (which I love).
