There is pressure there to figure it out. We dont have to trade for him either. - Flyersgod
To a degree, as long as they are playing well the pressure is very small. |

What did I say in my post on Timonen? I understand your point that we get Subban, and keep Couturier. I know how an offer sheet works. My point is that Subban is neither worth signing to that kind of contract at this point in time. Nor worth the draft pick compensation that would be required. Not even close at this point. - MJL
That would be my objection to Subban: contract. I'm not quite sure what he's worth in terms of contract because I'm not that up and up on the Cba, but I'm more comfortable with kimmo at that cap hit for a year than Subban at it for like 5 years. |

One thing about Subban if he thinks he is worth that much now and is griping on a contract what do you think he would do when his next contract is up? Could be a reason why some teams are iffy on submitting a offer sheet or trading for him. |

His attitude is a definite drawback. That's not to say he can't change that. |

The offer sheet is our leverage imo.. dont want to trade him?
Ok, then here, pay him or take compensation. |

The Flyers have to be willing to pay him the contract that it would take for them not to match. He is not worth that kind of commitment at this point in his career, in my opinion.

Whether they match doesnt matter. It sticks them with an option, keep him and pay him or trade him.
5 years 27mil.. if they want him match it..
I agree though. He isnt worth it. I dont want him at all. |

You think Kimmo is worth 6.3333M .... LOL.... He once did but not today my friend. We will see what kind of contract he gets next year ... maybe around 4M-4.5M
We have no puck moving D that can shoot. Subban was a +9 last year on a team that finished 15th in the East.
At 6.3333M the Habs won't match and we keep COUTURIER ... that's my point. - Chris48
Kimmo makes 3M this year, not 6.3; and yes he's clearly worth it. Perennial all-star and an absolute warrior on this team. Ignoring the fact that he often played through multiple injuries, he was the best Flyer defenseman on the ice (sans Pronger) and played in all situations. You can't deny the value he's brought. But to your point, he is also worth the 6.3 cap hit over the past 6 years. |

He'll still be a very capable defenseman too, at least for a couple years more. If he decides he wants to keep playing, he could more than likely get a cap hit almost as big as his now on the short term. Top defensemen are hard to come by. |

It does matter. If they match, then they can't trade him for a year. If the Flyers truly want to get him. Then it needs to be a deal so high that they won't match. Which I don't think he's worth. Or work out a deal for him. The whole purpose is to obtain the player.

Agreed. Defensemen, IMO, seem to be a bit more durable than forwards. No reason why he doesn't have at least another two years left in his career, assuming he's healthy and wants to continue playing. I'd hope he appreciates his most recent contract and gives us a bit of a discount from the 6.3M cap hit, but that may just be wishful thinking on my end. Either way, the guy is still a #1 d-man even if he has lost a step (and I hope too many people aren't using his race against Kovalchuk as a baseline for his speed). |
