I don't think it's a mistake. Laughton has shown he can play in the NHL.

If the Flyers want to improve the defense with a trade, they'll have to use something of value. If they do trade B Schenn, I don't think it's because they gave up on him. I think he's going to be a good player also, but I would deal him in the right move. - MJL
I would allow things to play out. Tonight is a winnable game and our offense seems most lacking for now. It would be a mistake to trade Schenn. |

I agree, I thought from day 1 he should have been sent back to Oshawa. |

Assume the Flyers will not get a top 5 pick. These d-men are ranked high by central scouting. I wouldn't trade up for a d-man.
Rasmus Ristolainen - D - TPS (SML) - 6-3, 207 - PR: 7
Ryan Pulock - D - Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL) - 6-0, 209 - PR: 11
Darnell Nurse - D - Soo Greyhounds (OHL) - 6-3, 185 - PR: 25
Nikita Zadorov - D - London Knights (OHL) - 6-5, 229 - PR: 17 - fnmjoe13
i just can't envision a guy w/ this name being any good...sounds like he would get hurt a lot |

I really hope this is not the roster the put out there tonight. Sestito and Shelley come in and provide some much needed energy only to get tossed back into the press box the next game would be a joke. Especially, when you have stiffs like Wellwood and Fedotenko wasting roster spaces. |

I think he will be. Personally I think he should stay tho.
Sestito should be in this game. He earned it. |

A very good puck moving defenseman would do wonders for the offense. They contribute as much to the offense as forwards do. I think they should also let it play out and be patient. But in the right deal, I would trade Schenn, reluctantly.

Keaton Thompson - US National Development Team |

He's definitely strong enough. And yes, he would be using a year from his ELC. But his play overrides that concern in my opinion. If he can play at this level, and he helps the team, you keep him in my opinion.

Well he was already known he how well he is defensively but that his offensive game needs work, not sure he can work on that in the role he'll be asked to play with the Flyers as what he'd be able to do in Oshawa.
But they'll make the best choice for them. |

Why it's the Flyers way to trade somebody if they don't produce at an MVP level the moment they step on NHL ice. - ob18
That's true, for sure.
But I'm just also not sure after watching Schenn after these last 50 or so games, what type of player he exactly is. He was projected to be a Mike Richards type, a gritty two way player with 25-30 goal potential. A second line center. I see gritty, but not a 25-30 goal scorer or a center.
He doesn't put himself in good positions to score often enough. He doesn't look to have noticeable hands, great speed, or seems to be an over average playmaker. His shot doesn't wow me by any means. I really haven't noticed him much during the games.
To date, he's a nice, in your face, responsible winger, but there are dozens of those out there.
But, your right. He's young and it's still early in his career so who really knows. |

How has he squandered that opportunity? He traded JVR for a young defenseman. And they still have a good supply of young forwards. - MJL
we've covered this ground before and now the flyers are not in as strong of a position to use forward assets as they were for the puck mover they've needed. |

Hedman is a decent top 4 d-man, I'd make a deal for him if the price is right. I'm not sure anyone labelled him franchise-level, and he certainly is not a forward. - Rocktane
He was also labeled potential franchise D; has yet to come close.

I think a lot of people assume he'll be buried on the 4th line if he stays but we all know Lavi gets his guys minutes at spots all over the lineup. Im fine with whatever they decide. |

there is more value allowing him to develop another yr. i think you qualify to join flyers mgmt, however. instant gratification. |

I don't see how dealing one forward, in which the return was a quality young defenseman, puts them in a weak position to make other deals. They have a lot of young quality forward assets.

If you think fans are upset watching Patrick Sharp, Justin Williams, Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards win a Cup now. Just wait until James van Riemsdyk reaches his full potential and could possibly start dominating us. Brayden Schenn could use his fuel to the fire of being given up on to dominate us. The worst part would be knowing that these trades are pretty recent. |

I have mixed feelings about Laughton staying.
He has been one of their more consistent forwards so far in terms of effort and effectiveness. He will surely hit a rough patch if he stays up at some point.
He is not a player that has to be in a top six spot to be effective.
If he can play in 3/4s of the games and get 10+ minutes a game I don't mind him staying up for the season.
I don't think he is the type of player that will go from his entry level deal right to a huge $ 2nd contract, because he is more of a third/4th line center and probably won't put up big scoring numbers.
I understand the reasons to send him back too.
Won't be too upset either way, unless they keep him up and not use him.
That would be a waste. |

Some players can develop at the NHL level. Sending him back doesn't guarantee that he will develop better. He doesn't look overwhelmed or over matched at this level. I think as long as he continues to play and get decent ice time, this will be good for him. Maybe they'll send him back. We'll see.

Flyers want to win now, obviously they would like to develop the player but with injuries and such Laughton can play a role on this team. This same conversation was said of Courtier last season and it played out pretty good. |

I don't see how the fans react as a factor. If trading Brayden Schenn for the right player, makes the Flyers better. Then that's all that matters.
