I don't see how the fans react as a factor. If trading Brayden Schenn for the right player, makes the Flyers better. Then that's all that matters. - MJL
Then Schenn becomes a better player himself and helps another team due to lack of patience. Trading away high quality assets hasn't worked for us in the past, I don't see how it would start now. |

If you think fans are upset watching Patrick Sharp, Justin Williams, Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards win a Cup now. Just wait until James van Riemsdyk reaches his full potential and could possibly start dominating us. Brayden Schenn could use his fuel to the fire of being given up on to dominate us. The worst part would be knowing that these trades are pretty recent. - SuperSchennBros
I'm rooting for JVR to become a great player.
It doesn't upset me if he reaches his potential for another team.
Hopefully Luke Schenn does the same in Philly.
As for Toronto, I think it's better for hockey overall when they are a playoff team.
I miss the rivalry the Flyers had with those guys.

I wasn't upset.
Sharp was a surprise. We knew what we were trading away in Williams, Gagne, Richards and Carter, who were all nice pieces needed to win the cup. Truth be told, if Quick doesn't decide to play out of his mind during the PO's, we aren't having this discussion.
I like JVR. I didn't like the trade. But I don't think he'll be back to dominate us any time soon. Same for Schenn. Even if Brayden reaches full potential, I don't see it happening. He, like the other players, are nice pieces to the puzzle. None are dominating. |

You can't expect to get a quality player for nothing. The Flyers got Brayden Schenn by treading a quality asset. Couturier was obtained by trading a quality asset for a high draft pick.

I'm not looking for a trade. We just signed Knuble and I feel our offense is mostly the problem right . |

Not right now. I watched jvr show flashes of domination in the 2011 playoffs and he has yet to reach his peak. I wouldn't expect him to right now. |

Pleasantly surprised.
I think in the right situation, hopefully this is it, he could become what he was projected to be - a strong, shut down, d-man with leadership qualities. |

I agree. The ability is definitely there. Now he has to find consistency. That remains the big question. I hope he does. |

6-4 selke trophy candidate centers who can put up 20+ goals and 50 pts a year are just as rare as franchise defensemen. They are actually harder to get too as you get luck out and get a franchise defenseman after round 1 but you can't get a player of Couturier's skil outside the top 10 picks in any draft. - psuhockey
Excluding the height, we had that. His name was Mike Richards. I dont agree 100 percent with you, but a solid point. Go Lions! |

Lets not get back on the Richards/Carter trades we all know there was a more behind the scnenes reason for trading both of them...Despite Homer saying it was to free cap space for Bryz |

I agree that they need to score more goals. But improving the defense, transition game, and puck moving is a huge key to scoring goals in this League. The Forwards are not the only responsible players for the lack of offense. I don't want to trade Schenn just to trade him. But for the right player, I would be willing to do so.

i'm in the same boat with not wanting to trade any young players for an immediate "fix"
moving forward, the flyers may have to trade a young forward to try and address the d corps concerns. but i'd prefer they aim for a less known entity. more of an up and comer. riskier (of course), but also less expensive. and i think they're gonna have to make a good choice with one of those kinds of trades if they wanna come out ahead
EDIT: schultz would've been perfect |

We'll find out probably right after the game if Laughton is staying.............Best guess is yes.............. - ob18

Lots of empty seats at the last Panthers game.
I doubt Leighton will play tonight.
But maybe he will play Sunday? - Marc D

Someone mentioned the young Coyotes defenseman yesterday as possibilities.
Not OEL or Yandle, the two who are prospects still.
I confess to not have seen them play.
But I think Phoenix is a team who would value a guy like Matt Read in a trade.
Versatile with scoring ability and a very affordable contract.
I wonder if they could work out a deal like that. |

Flyers want to win now, obviously they would like to develop the player but with injuries and such Laughton can play a role on this team. This same conversation was said of Courtier last season and it played out pretty good. - flyerfan28
laughton is not couturier. he needs to develop his offensive game and get stronger. his skating could use work as well. he's a good prospect as a solid third line center, but he needs more time and we don't need to burn another ELC where we're gonna end up losing some of these guys prematurely. |

i'm in the same boat, and that's exactly the type of trade i mean. i can go only upon what i've read (obv hope homer & the front office know more ), but something like read/jake/simmonds for a gormley or runblad +. if they are going to solve the d issue in a way that doesn't strip the core of the team, i think they're gonna have to nail it with one of those types of trades. obviously much much easier said than done, but i think that's what it's going to take
at least for someone like me, who doesn't have the stomach for advocating a trade of couturier or schenn |

It's a question of were they have determined Laughton can develop faster. In the NHl or by going back down. I see value handling it either way. Ideally he would go back down to save a year, but I guess we'll find out tonight. |
