Let's hope not.
Edit: I'm predicting Leighton's first start will come next weekend. Back to back games with Washington and Carolina. He will get one of those games. - PLindbergh31
with the way the season has started, let's make it the caps |

That's what I was thinking too. If they are really at $5 million for two years, we can give the 5 @ $25 million offer.
It isn't outrageus, fills a need, and is legit (similar to Benn), It would probably be our 1st round pick I think.
Then if Montreal matches, congrats, they have a great player. We lose nothing. - DrMidnite
An offer sheet is definitely the way to go for Subban.
I think MTL match at 5M per. Homer would maybe have to overpay a little more; maybe 5.5M-6M per for 7 years (league maximum contract length). We would keep our young guys: Couts, B.Schenn, Read, Simmer, Voracek, Laughton and if MTL don't match we send a 1st - 2nd and a 3rd. If MTL match the offer sheet, PHI just drove up the price for Subban. Win Win for the Flyers.
North of 5M per is overpaid but acquiring a young 23-year-old puck moving D that can play 25min a game and is a +9 (last season) on the worst team in the east (15th) is hard to come by, specially without trading our current assets.
Kimmo's 6.333M cap hit is coming off the books at the end of the season + with Pronger on LTIR that's more than 11M in cap space.
The young core of Giroux (25) - Couts (20)- B. Schenn (21) and Subban (23) looks pretty good to me. |

Good for Laughton. I like what I've seen so far from him. Burning a year of his contract might be a little wasteful, but on the other hand if he's comfortable up on the big club the NHL experience can't hurt. |

They aren't playing well. Bryz is tied with Ovechkin in scoring. - PLindbergh31
I really can't figure out what's up with OV. He seems so uninspired compared to his 50 goal scoring self. |

What the hell is up with that team.
I never really believed in Backstrom but they are brutal. They dont have a bad lineup on paper.
Ovechkin really needs new linemates brought on that team to get him going. |

He may have run his course in D.C. A change of scenery might be in order. |

It's possible. That'd be a pretty huge trade, though. It's just strange that he goes from a force of nature to the relatively pedestrian player he seems now.
Maybe Joe's right, maybe it's the (edit: soon-to-be) wife |

I'd be dealing pretty much everyone excluding him and some of the young kids they have on D.
They have some good prospects as well but the mix is wrong. |

Well she is a tennis player prolly taxes his stamina a bit to keep up with her. |

Oates is his third coach in a calendar year. He might just be feeling burnt out in Washington. |

Washington you figure could get a hell of a package for OV. It isn't working with him there, perhaps they would be better off trading him and building that way. |

After being on such a short leash last year, especially in the playoffs, I could see it. But if the Capitals stick with him, they need that scoring force. |

PROS
- Great skater
- Needed youth on defense
- Tons of "potential"
CONS
- HIGH cap hit
- Long term commitment
- POSSIBLE bad influence in locker room (just rumors right now)
- Would he even be worth 3 draft picks?
Biggest question: Can the Flyers even afford P.K. without trading/waiving someone? (50 man limited reached AND not even a 1M in cap space) |
