The Flyers didn't put Pronger on LTIR yet (4.921M). So the cap space shouldn't be a problem THIS season. The 50 contract maximum issue could be resolved by trading a minor league player for a late draft pick I think.
I personally believe Subban will be worth 5M in a few years. The contract-offer sheet should also NOT include a NMC or NTC just in case he doesn't live up to his potential or if he becomes a bad influence in the locker room.
The biggest issue in my opinion is future cap space once G, Couts and Schenner are up for new contracts.
With Prongs on LTIR and Kimmo off the books after this season, that's 11M right there. So it might be feasible long term. - Chris48
It's absolutely feasible both long and short term, cap wise, to add Pk Subban via an offer sheet worth $5mm per year.
Don't forget the Flyers will be losing more than Timonen's cap hit. Walker, Shelley, Lilja and Leighton are all also gone. There's also possible compliance buyouts to factor in. |

I was talking about cap space in the next 2-3 years. With G, Couts and Schenner and if we decide to resign Kimmo, that's alot of contract money. Salary cap is 6M less next season. Subban's cap hit at 5M or 5.5M per might become problematic especially if Homer doesn't use the buyout options on Bryz (5.666M) or Danny B (6.5M).
Think your right about the offer sheet not including NMC-NTC. |

I know that. And I don't think adding Subban would be a problem. Even with Bryzgalov and Briere on the team. Subban becomes one of your building block players if you obtain him. Other moves can be made for whatever Cap space is needed. 5M or 5.5M 2 years down the road is not a lot of money for a top defenseman. If that's what Subban turns out to be.

True. I'm comfortable with 5M per also.

And I think a fact of life in a Salary Cap environment, is that a team like the Flyers is always going to be up against the Cap. And are always going to have to make some moves to deal with that. If a player has to be moved, then you make a good trade for some good young assets. And that continues your pipeline of young and cheaper talent to fill out the roster. All I know is, and I'm not saying that Subban is going to be that player. But defense is the most important position next to Goaltender. And it's hard to be a Cup winning team without that dynamic two way defenseman such as Doughty, or Duncan Keith. The danger of making that commitment is that he could turn out to be Jay Bouwmeester, or Joni Pitkanen. |

I don't know much about him, but $5mm is a lot. Is he a team player and would he fit into this team? |

I don't know anything about him as a teammate . But Subban's style of play meshes perfectly with the Flyers style of play. I'm not saying it's a sure thing.

$5mm is a lot if he turns out to be a great player, but a nightmare as a team. That can destroy a team. |

No word but it's assumed he is staying.

I agree totally with that. My only possible issue is, is he going to continue to get those minutes. - MJL
With Hartnell out, I think he will. Otherwise I'd say no, and to send him down.
I'm at the point where if he's getting 8-12 minutes a night, against NHL competition, it's better than the juniors. But that's only if he gets the ice time. |

I wouldn't be willing to burn a year off Laughton's ELC for just 40 games or so that are left at 10 minutes or less a night... I would give him the opportunity next season with a full schedule.
There are other guys than can do what he does now. His 10 minutes getting replaced by HarryZ or another Phantom on the fourth line, wouldn't be a drop off. |

I'm with you on that. I just don't know how the minutes will shake out, when or if the Flyers get healthy.

I think the Flyers take a step back tonight. Tampa has always given them fits.
I'll even take a gentlemen's bet on it. |

Pretty much since Prongs went down we have been trying to sure up the D. When we were talking about Schenn for JVR last year we still had Carle. Schenn was the stay at home guy we needed and Grossman is similar as well. With Carle gone we need that skating pick mover. And Mezaros being hurt even amplifies that fact that we have too many pilons out there. Foster / Lilja / Gervais are all "serviceable" 6/7 d men, but we can't make a run with them as our 5/6 pairings. Do the offer sheet. 5.25 to 5.5 for 7 years. It will cripple the Habs to match it and if not we finally solve what Weber or Suter would have done ( even to a lesser extent today). |

You think Richards won the fight? It wasn't much of a fight, but Doan clearly won it. |

Richards deserved a ton of credit for that. Shows what a leader he is. |
