And I think a fact of life in a Salary Cap environment, is that a team like the Flyers is always going to be up against the Cap. And are always going to have to make some moves to deal with that. If a player has to be moved, then you make a good trade for some good young assets. And that continues your pipeline of young and cheaper talent to fill out the roster. All I know is, and I'm not saying that Subban is going to be that player. But defense is the most important position next to Goaltender. And it's hard to be a Cup winning team without that dynamic two way defenseman such as Doughty, or Duncan Keith. The danger of making that commitment is that he could turn out to be Jay Bouwmeester. - MJL
Totally agree with you.
Really hope Homer sends an offer sheet for Subban. Those young quality 2-way defenseman are near impossible to come by.
The Matt Carle signing at 5.5M per tells us how much Dman with offensive qualities are valuable and sought-after.
I really liked Carle (no turnover machine comments please) but at that price it's getting ridiculous.
Subban is younger, faster, stronger, better shot, and has more potential. He seems however a bit egotistic and a little too cocky for my taste but the guy is very talented. I think Kimmo and Pronger would do a great job mentoring him if he ever came here.

I just don't feel that an Offer Sheet, unless it's going to be for some outrageous contract, is going to be successful. Then you can't trade for him for a year. So if the goal is to acquire a player, it think the best plan is to try and trade for him. If they are insistent on Couturier, then you move on.
In my opinion you aren't getting Subban for either deal. - MJL
PK would sign the offer sheet so the Candians would prefer him at 5/$25 than take the 1, 3 and Gus? I'm not sure I would give up much more than that for a player with a high AAV like that unless he's more proven.

I think the Canadiens would match. And I don't think the trade offer that you propose of a 1,3 and Gustafsson, is even close to one they would accept for Subban.

The Canadians 2/$5m offer is a far cry from 5/$25. Someone is going to make them pay up for being cheap. It should be interesting.

Dreger on TSN reported that MTL/Bergevin was firm on 5.1M for 2 years (2.55M cap hit) for Subban. Same as Del Zotto contract.
If that is actually true (Dreger best insider in my opinion), an offer sheet from philly may do the trick who knows; 5M-5.5 M per for 5-7 years.
Don't know how a trade would work without diminishing our young offensive depth. Homer could propose to MTL: Laughton + 1st rounder+ 2rd rounder and if they don't accept he's sending an offer sheet.
I'm at the point I'd have a hard time doing B. Schenn for Subban straight up. At this point I'd stand pat unless another reasonable puck moving Dman becomes available.

Bergevin is playing hardball. Good for him. Like I said, I don't believe an Offer Sheet of that value will be successful. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Montreal would match. And I think it will take more then that in a trade.

The hardest decision in that scenario is whether Montreal wants me to drive him there or pay for his ticket

Agreed.. Also, we're throwing trade scenarios out there like there wouldn't be any other teams interested. If they do trade him, teams will offer a lot more than Schenn.
If I'm Montreal, I'd be leary about trading a defenseman to the Flyers in a lockout shortened season.. in 94-95 it didn't work out too well for them.. hahah

What would you be comfortable trading for him ..... MTL did lose Pacioretty for 1 month.
