I agree. And losing him for the draft pick compensation of a 5M Offer Sheet would be just as bad. - MJL
Yup. I think a team extending Subban an offer sheet is pretty foolish, unless they totally overpay him, I'm talking north of 6+ million a year, Montreal is very likely to match. |

I don't think 5M is awful, but it's a pretty extreme overpayment now. It very well might not be in a few years. So I wouldn't be upset at it. But I don't see the draft pick compensation as being enough for Montreal to pass on matching. - MJL
They let Subban walk, finish last, then draft teammates McKinnon and Drouin after making a stunning move to get a second top 3 pick by trading this years flyers 1st and their own 1st next year. |

I think Subban really wants to stay in Montreal. - Flyersgod
He probably does. It's a fantastic Hockey City. He just wants to be paid what he thinks he is worth. And right now he thinks he is worth more than he is. |

My only drawback with this player is the attitude issue. Not counting this contract issue either plenty others have gone through that. I just think he's more physically talented than anything the flyers currently have and brings a skill set they desperately need. I'd have to grit my teeth as well if the flyers did in fact make that offer and receive him. It also wouldn't surprise me if the change in scenery helped that so-called attitude. Be great IMO for him to play alongside a dman like kimmo while he's still here too. |

Why not go 7 at 35? Makes it all that more unlikely they match. - section32
I just believe that at 5M a year, they match. Let's face it, if Subban develops into the player that his talent suggest he can be. In a few years, and further down the line, 5M could be a bargain. My thought is if the true objective is to obtain the player. Then unless you're willing to sign him to an Offer Sheet of outrageous money, then I don't see it as the best way to go. I think the best chance is to try and work out a trade. |

If that's what it takes to retain him why won't they just do it? |

I don't like the guy either Joe. But, someone said that if he was on your team, you'd probably love the guy and defend the attitude. That's probably true. And I think he's young, and very confident in himself. And he doesn't back down from anyone and has a chip on his shoulder. There's something to be said for that.

Playing in Montreal is a wonderful experience for any player. I could be wrong, but isn't the tax rate in the province of Quebec higher then the rest of Canada? I don't have a problem with a player trying to maximize his value. Carlson signed for a little less then $4 million/yr on his extension. I'm sure P.K's agent has been using that contract as a starting point. |

If you look at Montreal's pattern of contracts, they don't like to hand out the big money to a player right out of his EL deal. I applaud them for that. I think that is a change that the NHL needs to make. Subban obviously isn't happy with that policy.

It would have to be at least a 5 year deal, if not 7, to make sense. - MJL

Thats how florida and tampa lure players. No income tax. Take home about 15% more here |

Not sure about the tax rate. I think Subban comes to terms with Montreal sooner than later. Probably within a week. |

Obviously a small sample size, and Hartnell's return is a long way off, but Simmonds and Read look really good playing with Giroux. Wonder if Hartnell will initially start on a different line when he returns. |

If that line continues to click, very possible. Great that Read scored 3 goals, and the Flyers scored 7. But Florida was awful defensively, and their goaltending was even worse. |

Supposedly, Montreal offered him a two-year deal worth 2.2 and 2.9 this year and next, respectively. Sounds about right for a guy who earned 875K last year and still has some of work to do on his game.
When that deal's over and he's (potentially) proved himself, that's when the big payday hits. He says he wants to stay in Montreal, too.
I think Montreal matches almost any offer sheet, just so they can say that their hand was forced and it doesn't look like they gave in to his demands.

Yeah, Florida isn't playing well right now for sure. They have a bunch of injuries, I don't think they are as bad as they look at the moment.
What did you think of Knuble last night? I thought he had some jump and played pretty well. |

I think that might be a good idea. I would like to see Briere and Hartnell on a line centered by B. Schenn. |
