Not sure about the tax rate. I think Subban comes to terms with Montreal sooner than later. Probably within a week. - PLindbergh31
Agreed, I think the situation gets resolved this week. In the end, I feel the Flyers are going to deal a young, promising forward for a promising young d-man (pretty much a JVR-Schenn deal). I'm not sure about the pieces being traded or acquired. |

Yep. With Briere and Ville Lieno. :-). - section32
Leino might be the worst contract in the NHL. His hip could blow at any moment. He got paid basically on one playoff run. I liked Leino a lot, was disappointed to see him go, but Holmgren absolutely made the correct call not matching the Buffalo offer. |

Supposedly, Montreal offered him a two-year deal worth 2.2 and 2.9 this year and next, respectively. Sounds about right for a guy who earned 875K last year and still has some of work to do on his game.
When that deal's over and he's (potentially) proved himself, that's when the big payday hits. He says he wants to stay in Montreal, too.
I think Montreal matches almost any offer sheet, just so they can say that their hand was forced and it doesn't look like they gave in to his demands. - tangent_man
I think they match also. Which is why I don't see an Offer Sheet as the way to go.

I just believe that at 5M a year, they match. Let's face it, if Subban develops into the player that his talent suggest he can be. In a few years, and further down the line, 5M could be a bargain. My thought is if the true objective is to obtain the player. Then unless you're willing to sign him to an Offer Sheet of outrageous money, then I don't see it as the best way to go. I think the best chance is to try and work out a trade. - MJL
Do you think the loss of Pacioretty for a month makes them at least look at the trade route? |

The Flyers could sure use a young puck moving D-man. They are in great need of one. How, or if they are able to acquire one is anyone's guess. Looking at the list of next years crop of UFA D-men, a player who fits the bill isn't available. |

Yeah, Florida isn't playing well right now for sure. They have a bunch of injuries, I don't think they are as bad as they look at the moment.
What did you think of Knuble last night? I thought he had some jump and played pretty well. - PLindbergh31
Knuble looked better then I expected him to. Expectations need to be tempered.

They may make a trade of some kind. But I don't see that affecting the Subban situation. At least I wouldn't let it if I was them. |

I don't think anyone expects him to be the Knuble who was with the Flyers a few years ago. I think most people's expectations are for him to play a solid 10-12 minutes a game, chip in somewhat on the PP, and be a good leader in the room for the younger players. |

Agreed, added to the fact it seems Mez just can't stay healthy. Some guys just have really bad luck. They have a nice surplus of young forwards who can play in anyone's top 6, so there are assets to trade for a young, puck-moving d-man. They're going to have to acquire a d-man who hasn't reached his potential yet and can start as a 2nd or 3rd pairing d-man right now and hopefully grow into a top pairing d-man. |

Using that logic on our end we should be waiting for Mezaros to come back then, no? Or picking up a role player of some sort. |

Feel awful for Meszaros. The guy busts his ass rehabbing a torn achillies, having torn mine twice, I know what it entails just to get up on your feet and move around, for him to get back in 5+ months and play at a pretty high level in the NHL is astounding to me. Guy can't catch a break.
With a healthy Mez, and with Schenn improving this D core isn't as bad as people make it out to be. If they get crippled by injuries it will get dicey. |

I think those are the reasonable expectations. But you know how it can be in Flyerdom.

I think any deal the Flyers make should be for the long term, not the short term. They have a pretty full roster right now. And I think the last 2 games showed that they have the depth to play well with the injuries they have.
If Laughton stays, they're up against the 50 contract max. |

I do believe we are seeing the youngsters step up tremendously. However, we weren't an improved team going into the season and the competition all (Pitt, NYR, and NJ) got better around us. The question is: are we trying to compete for the cup this year or just make it through the season and re-address needs through FA? |

Always been a big Mike Knuble fan. He was an underrated and under appreciated player when he was here previously.

I don't think you go into any Season not trying to compete for the Cup. But I can't say realistically that this team is a legitimate Cup contender. But make the playoffs and anything can happen. Realistically, they need continued growth from the young players. And they have to somehow acquire a top defenseman to get to where they need to go.
