Here's the difference. Islanders don't have Edmonton's forward surplus plus Niederreiter is a year younger than Paajarvi (so he's a year further away from potentially being trade bait instead of part of the long-term plan). - bmeltzer
What kind of cost would there be for Paajarvi? Do the Flyers have an Alex Stojanov that Edmonton would be willing to take? I'd rather not offer a higher pick, because I like the 2013 draft. Could he be had for a 4th? |

Or maybe he's struggling right now like the rest of the team is. And an injury, or the C, or anything else really isn't a factor. - MJL
a lack of hustle makes me think that he's nursing an injury, not struggling with his game. |

Sometimes a lack of hustle is just a lack of hustle. And sometimes struggling, is just struggling. I don't beleive there is an injury issue with Giroux. He's just not playing that well. Along with a lot of other players. |

I love the Philadelphia Flyers but there is very little about this roster that excited me right now. I feelfeel we had a horrible off season and now we're in the middle of the pack. A seventh or eighth seed at best. I have never been to the Wells Fargo Center before and I was gonna go this season if not for the lockout. Thanks to the lockout, I am gonna wait until the excitement comes back and I promise that it will. I know the season has only just begin but this team has holes. |

I think the Flyers have a lot of depth there. Flyers are great at developing Forwards. I wish a young defenseman would pan out once in a while.

no you need to upgrade defense....obviously this is a 2 year plan where i wouldnt give up any pick or prospects to get these guys. with perry and ryan you could easily trade read/voracek/simmonds for defensive help.
Plus tank this year and get seth jones - Philly1980
Sorry Philly but I'm glad you're not the GM k back to work... Fatigue ... Must .... Work ... Ugh legs .... Gone |

We'll see how the rest of the season pans out. Just seems like this team finds it acceptable to mail it in when falling behind or in consecutive days. Uh man I'm tired |

We knew they had holes before the Season started. There is no doubt in my mind that this team is better then what is showed so far this Season. And LA was an 8th seed last year. So make the playoffs, and see what happens. |

I don't see a surplus of top end guys at all that they can afford to trade |

I agree there isn't a surplus of top forwards. But if the right defenseman comes along, have ot make the deal. Only two I wouldn't trade is Couturier and Giroux. |

Oh Brilliant. Trade Voracek and a 1st rounder in a fairly deep draft for Bobby Ryan...
Don't wait and see if the 23 year old can rebound. And by all means trade the pick right when it's possible that it'd be a top 3 pick. |

Obviously the poor play is part of the struggles he's going through right now, along with a lot of other guys.
But when the captain of the team doesn't hustle I prefer to think there's a physical reason, and not just attribute it to "struggling".
Struggling and lack of hustle shouldn't even be in the same sentence, imo. |

Anton Khudobin is 5-1-0 in six NHL games, stopping 172 of 179 total shots (.961 SV%). Have seen every game ... he can play. Fun to watch.

Very optimistic of you...
My biggest fear is that Homer will make some reactionary bad move just to stay afloat this year. They have a lot of rookies and inexperience. This team may have their troubles this year - I say ride it out - and, give the young guys some more experience.
ps. A rocky start, and a potentially a rough year, is exactly why I did not want Giroux to be captain this year. It might be ok in the long run. I have noticed that I've seen Timmo interviewed more than Giroux. |

First off, I'm not a huge Leighton fan (but, neither a boosh fan)
Leighton skip the backup roll a few years ago and moved into the #1 job. He's spend a lot of time in the AHL, mainly due to numbers and I believe Homer was protecting Leighton by not moving him up and back risk losing him to waivers(maybe thats a stretch). Boucher has shown anything special in the past few years. I thought that Leighton, really benefited by the goalie coaches in Phl. And, I think his game is a step above since being in Phl. My point is the it's probably a push at this point. - leon neon
Leighton didnt skip the backup job.. he got rushed up do to injuries to both of our goalies.
That year he played very well.. so did Boosh, and so did Emery. They were all helped out by a significantly deep 2 way offense, and a top end defense. Look at Leightons stats since the cup final.
4 NHL games. Actually 3 and one period. In two seasons. And in those 10 periods, he has allowed 13 goals. 13. |

This really isn't the first time in recent play that Giroux has been lazy defensively. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen from time to time with him. I agree that struggling and lack of hustle and effort are two different things. |
