The analysts projected Tim Couch was going to be a great NFL quarterback too.
And yet people didn't want to trade a projected Selke trophy candidate for him... - TheGreat28
Couturier plays better defense than Subban does... so why in the world should people want to do that? Let alone, you would have been overpaying the unproven kid while also giving up a good prospect and picks of your own.
If Homer didn't want to resign a proven veteran Matt Carle for $5+mil a year, there's no way in heck he should have given up $5.5+ projected asking, plus Couturier/Schenn/Read, plus picks... If he would have had his way, and Philly would have gotten him, he would have been one of the top 3 paid players on the team. No way in heck he deserves that as an unproven 23 year old kid. |

Actually, Subban plays pretty solid defensively. His advanced metrics are very solid across the board and he was far and away Montreal best skater last season.
Subban has potential Norris level ability and is a good two way player. His ceiling is higher than Carle's level of play, and I'm one of the few that liked Matt Carle before he signed in Tampa Bay.
I didn't want to trade Couturier to get Subban, but it would be a pretty fair trade in terms of their level of play now an future potential, and I would have happily traded pretty much anyone on the roster not named Giroux or Couturier for him.

He's a Hab now anyway so it doesnt really matter either way.
If we make a deal.... and that's a big "if" it's probably going to be with a team like the 'Yotes. You don't see young D men moved mid season often. And when you do it's because the team has a huge need elsewhere. With PHX it can be argued that they need a talented young forward just as badly as we need a young talented D man.

I honestly hope Homer just doesn't make another quick, "in the moment" deal and dish out too much in an act of desperation. The D is beat up right now, sure... But once Gus, Bourdon, and Mez get healthy again, I think they can scab by until the offseason. I'm more worried about the overall forward performance right now, offensively and defensively.
That being said, I would love having Yandle at the right price. As long as that right price is Read/Voracek and some picks. (I know, it ain't happening...) |

I'd be looking at OE-L to be honest. And if the deal could be done without giving up Couturier or this year's 1st... I do it. |

I'm really starting to believe that people who so cluelessly evaluate Subban have some other issue with him...
He's a big physical defenseman with a heckuva scoring touch, sounds almost like someone else we lit up this website about over the summer. I get it he's a mouthy wiener sometimes but he's young and quite frankly the flyers have had more annoying personalities that fans gushed over, cough Upshall cough carcillo and Subban has more talent in his pinky than those two put together. |

He is immature, and does have a cocky attitude about him. He's also flashy in his dress and does some things seen as goofy.
I don't mind that stuff, because people do grow up, and honestly, that cockiness can be helpful as much as a liability, if not more of an asset. |

That's really all you can do is look at OE-L. They're not giving him up. I'd set my sights on a lesser player. |

I think he's a very good player, who would help the Flyers immensely. But I have my doubts that he has future Norris trophy potential. Time will tell. |

He's a cancer on and off the ice... he's gotten into fights with teammates on multiple occasions... the guy is constantly out of position, and he can thank good goaltending in part for his +/- (I wouldn't expect all of the "I only look at the stat sheet" people to get this one).. when tracking a player with the puck, he is constantly punching them in the kidney with his free hand, and slew footing people... the kid thinks he's a forward (and not saying an offensive defenseman is bad by any means.. but he is always shooting the puck with every touch he gets no matter how bad of a shot it is, and he never gets back on d when he takes the puck in deep all by himself.)... that's all in addition to his cocky, self-deserving attitude. He's one of the few in the league I actually despise... I'm really starting to believe people are so blinded by the hype of this kid, that they overlook all of this and want to throw around $6mil and a prospect like it's candy and worthy. There is much better, less-cancerous, cheaper options out there... even through trade. Sometimes chemistry IS more important than being a good puck handling defenseman.
... and I never liked Carcillo either... or Upshall's attitude.
If you love him, for whatever reason.. fine. But I personally hate the kid. If he wasn't such a trouble maker and cancer, and actually played his position, I wouldn't mid him. I just can't stand watching the kid, and want to see someone step up and jack him across the ice every time he's out... |

Does anyone think Read should get PK minutes instead of Fedotenko ?
At 69%, things must change and Fed hasn't looked really good IMO |

Keep looking. He's a stud, and I think Pho would give up Doan before O-EL |
