The Flyers, right now, seem to be taking suck to a whole new level. And unfortunately, Giroux is leading the way.
I'll be happy when they learn to not shoot the puck into opposing players and can complete a couple passes in a row. |

The D is exactly what they should be, adequate defensively. They are all defensive D except Kimmo. (When Mez is out)
You need more from them than that though. How helpful would it be to have a D-man actually create a play instead of just dumping it in, or shooting it down the boards. Find an open lane. Be a threat on the PP.
The roster players are okay. Exactly where they would fall realistically compared to the rest of the league. Too many complimentary pieces. - flyer_nutter
Spot on. A puck mover would go a long way in helping a bunch of areas that are lacking. |

Ok but maybe the rest of us would like to hear what you meant. I'm not trying to be a Richard but I don't get how the team is building for mediocrity as you say. Maybe you have an observation I don't and perhaps if you explain it ill see where you're coming from, nothing more nothing less. |

Missing Hartnell hurts. Take the leading goal scorer off a team having trouble scoring and it's not good. Giroux just looks out of sorts in all aspects. - PLindbergh31
It's rare that a player of G's caliber struggles in EVERY aspect of his game, all at the same time, but he's doing it.
Ridiculously poor decisions with the puck, poor shots and poor passes, no physical game, no defense, lack of hustle, and just no ... presence on the ice. He's just another player.
It's like he's morphed into this 3rd line scrub.

I'd be far from singling him out. He's been bad. So has Voracek. Brayden Schenn. Couturier. Timonen. Coburn. The list is long and all encompassing. - Jsaquella
Voracek and Schenn are concerning for me. Big time. Schenn especially. I suppose its easier to give a pass to a guy like Coots when thinking of his play last season. The Flyers arent a horrific team but are missing a big name on the back end and up front. How they will get that I have no clue, but its a bunch of secondary pieces thrown together for me.
Its easy to rag on a guy like Kimmo. Age eventually catches up.
Coburn, even in his best years has always been up and down. When too much is asked of him offensively his play tends to drop. |

Apparently Joe, pointing out that Hartnell scored 37 goals last year, and was one of the League leaders in PP goals, is blind homerism!

Giroux is playing badly. Not really making excuses, but who did he mainly play with last year. Also who does he play with now?

Really there is such a lack of confidence with this team with the puck offensively, and it has snowballed throughout the team. Some of the PP rushes up the ice bordered on comical. Errant passes to the one lone forechecker on the PK for the opposition. Hesitancy with players. Voracek gets the puck and has no idea what to do with it right now. Someone needs to step and make some plays. Briere tried to do it, but he just couldn't bury one. And again, the PP cost the team the game. - MJL
They aren't playing to their potential that's for sure. This has fall 2009 feel to it badly. |

What kind of value do you see the Flyers getting for Jake Voracek in the offseason if he puts up an OK season? |

There's tons of mitigating circumstances for all of them. Schenn is 21 and entering his 2nd NHL season. Mike Richards had a 20 something game goal less streak in that same situation. Voracek is only 23 and may be feeling the weight of a new contract.
They all concern me, but with younger player you're going to get ups and downs. The trouble is, it seems everyone's having their down at the same time |

Agreed that the play of some players are concerning. But Voracek and Brayden Schenn are in different spots in their careers. B Schenn is still basically a rookie in this League. I expected Voracek to break out this year. This is Voracek's 5th NHL Season. As of right now, doesn't look promising. But things can change in a hurry. Coburn really hasn't been given much offensive responsibilities. That is disappointing to me. I think it has zero to do with his play. In fact, I want to see him jumping up in the play more and coming late. He has the wheels to do it.

Giroux deserves a big hunk of blame. He's playing like crap, and honestly his effort hasn't been beyond questioning. Look at the 4th Tampa goal from Sunday. Giroux literally stopped skating on the back check.
He's played poorly, hasn't fought for the puck like he has in the past and honestly, he's been as big a disappointment to me as Voracek or Bryaden Schenn have so far. - Jsaquella
afaiac, he's been the biggest disappointment of this young, poopty season. |
