I think this was the right move, but Grigorenko's been pretty awful so far. Could have something to do w/ his linemates, but the guy is constantly being driven back into his own zone by weak competition (he plays most protected minutes on team, and plays badly in them). Good reason why points aren't coming as some would hope.

Believe he starts in OZ ~ 57% of time, ends in OZ ~ 35% of time. That's pretty horrific.

On the other hand, Thomas Vanek is a machine..

- Travis Yost

Hecht and Kaleta, Hecht and Ott, Hecht and Scott....

Could be a reason when hes on the ice they cant stay in the OZ

I think you are just throwing terms out there... he has gotten better in each game that he has played... in one Carolina game he got 6 minutes becuase of a turnover... in the other Carolina game he was with Scott and Hecht most of the time.

his linemates have been horrible.. Ellis/Hecht/Gerbe/Scott...

But in his game last weekend with Ott/Foligno/Stafford.. he has a few very good scoring chances and some nice passes.

yea... one of the companies I work with has box tickets to the Jackets and they invited me out this year because well frankly... they don't know a lot of people or customers that are NHL fans so the tickets go to waste usually.

There's no question this has something to do w/ it, but Ruff's in a tricky spot. If he moves Grigorenko up w/ better linemates, he's also going to face significantly tougher competition.

Regardless, I'd do what I could to get him away from John Scott. Christ.

Awful? He's been put on a line with Scott. He played 6 min last week against Carolina and when Lindy has finally decided to play him regualrly he started to get some confidence and got a few chances

I follow your theory here.

He is 18 of course, so.

I have said that I would like to see him come away from battling along the boards with a puck in both zones a little more often.

He needs time and needs to be played with the right line mates.

What did Tyler Seguin have in his rookie year ? 11 goals I think ?

Give Grigger some time I think he will be fine from some of the passes I have seen this kid make already.

And yes Vanek is a machine!!!

Ruff has had problems like this for a while. Afinogenov, for example, definitely had his problems, but they weren't going to be fixed by putting him on a line with Mair, Peters, or Ellis (i.e. guys that couldn't skate with him).

You mean like bench him for the entire 3rd period when your team is down a goal and failing to muster any kind of offense. So instead you get Kaleta, Hecht and Matt Freking Ellis out there?

If you said that, you are right on par with our effed up coach.

i hate you all.... living 850 miles away from your favorite team blows...

And this season they aren't coming out west where I live... otherwise I would have seen them in Minny, Colorado, Chicago, Columbus, or STL.

Fact is, Sean Couturier is the exception, not the rule. Grigorenko's only going to get better -- significantly better. Many prospects struggle in these spots. It doesn't help he's skating with plugs in unremarkable TOI, but I suspect Ruff's worried about how he'll perform short-term in heavy, tough minutes.

If I'm making the decision, I'm boosting his TOI, and making good use of him on home ice where you can really protect his minutes through line-matching. On the road, it'll be more of a challenge.

No, I would move him up in the lineup, not down. Especially at home.
