The problem is you think that "building" on what they have now is going to work.

The reason this team needs to rebuild is because it doesn't have the right pieces to build on. The foundation isn't there. It isn't strong enough.

You could keep "building" on what they have now and you would end up with an 8th placed team that loses in the 1st round.

And where exactly is the historical evidence that suggests what the Leafs have in 2013 could not eventually win cup while continuing to develop current and future prospects?

Biggs could become Lucic for all we know; I bet Boston fans had the exact same opinion of Lucic that we do of Biggs before he was a premier Power-forward. Kadri just seems to get better and better; where the hell did Frattin come from? These guys get developed and become better. Doesn't matter where you draft them, so long as they get developed properly. And since Eakins and co. have been with the Marlies, that's exactly what the Leafs organization has preached. It seems to be working. Not to mention the poopload of players we have playing in Junior that are doing well. Rielly and Finn look like top notch prospects. So does Percy.

Statistically if you draft well and get the most out of what you drafted, the better off you'll be.

Yes, you fear that you will never be able to do any better so you stick with mediocrity. Excellent work! He can't get you a Cup but who cares he scores 40! Good enough!
- Two_For_Truth

40 is mediocrity

Again, proving why you are absolutely clueless

goodbye!

You're wrong. That's not what I asked. I asked how likely is it that the Leafs can find a guy like that. The answer is very unlikely. That means, because it's so hard to find guys like that, out of nowhere, the Leafs need to go where it's more likely they will succeed.
- Two_For_Truth

Who was Boston's "Datsyuk".... you cannot keep using different conflicting arguments to support your one position......

I guess you can credit him with Raymond too, despite our disdain for him.

Of course, there was Pat White.... Not to mention all those 2nd's he traded away for the Marius Czerkawski's and Eric Weinreich's of the world.....

Then he gave away Matt Cooke.......he might be a douche but he's an excellent hockey player when he's not trying to kill people.

How many players on the Leafs are as good as Kopitar, Brown, Doughty and Quick?

Answer.

- Two_For_Truth

That's not the point, and playing your little dodging games doesn't count.

How many players on the leafs current roster were top 10 draft picks, compared to la's??

Keep on running from it, it looks good on you.

Only way to build a championship team! Load up on high draft picks.

To be so clueless, balanced out with so much blind arrogance, really is a rare treat.

But you just said the Leafs cant draft at all. Especially Nonis. So how does this make them more likely to succeed?
- systemtool

And now you're exaggerating to dodge the point...

The Leafs and Nonis, historically speaking, can't draft franchise players in nontraditional places.

How do they make themselves more likely to succeed?

Start drafting in more traditional places (Hint: 1st overall).

He had some decent wingers.....that's where Quinn erred. You guys had goaltending, Mogilny, Roberts.

leafs should invent a time machine, go back. draft datsyuk. tell burke not to trade for kessel, tell them to keep rask. then we can argue about other more important things, like how hot kate upton is..
- wingz4life

I bet UG would say NOT..... just not his type....

the datsyuk argument is irrelevant, he went undrafted in the 96/97 nhl drafts, the wings took a chance on him in the 6th round due to a recommendation from a scout.
any team could of picked him 2 drafts in a row and didnt..

Possibly, it's not a given. But that was against Douggie's team.

Sundin was a true franchise player for well over a decade. He's "that guy" if there ever was one.

There is no dodging. Im just using your arguements against you. You said the Leafs cant draft for poop, especially Nonis, then you insist the Leafs draft their way to glory.

Drafting 1st overall isnt a choice that Nonis says yes or no to. The players all have to fail, and then a lottery has to be won. Which under the new CBA is made much more difficult.

We had a lot of injuries too that year though, but our D was actually very good. Sundin being the biggest one. (injury wise)

But most of Sundins time in Toronto didnt include top level wingers.

Wayne scored on his next shift, when he should have been in the box. It's a pretty solid conclusion...

not that it needs to be discussed further.
