It wasn't there yet.

Why does a team need a strong 1st line center? A clutch, physical captain? An amazing goaltender? An anchor defender who eats up 25 to 30 minutes a night? Is that a serious question? If you take a good look at most Cup winners, they have most, if not all, of those things.

The only thing you need to win a cup is love of the game

I would say the first time forwards sucked

Derek king, berezan, valk, were some of our top forwards,

- jribout

They weren't that bad.

Thomas, Berezin, Sullivan, Modin to name a few. I'm obviously not a Leaf fan but i think goaltending covered up the deficiencies on D.

The Leafs? The Leafs dont draft players, who ever this Leafs guy is. Nonis does and hes only been on the job a month at most.
- systemtool

So ignore his drafting history for fear of complimenting the Canucks players or conceding that he can't draft franchise players in nontraditional places?

Great work.

The new CBA has changed in that it has lowered the odds signficantly, and now includes 14 teams in the lottery not 5.

Please stop this nonsense.

Wrong. The odds aren't significantly lowered. The last placed team is still guaranteed 2nd overall and still has overwhelmingly good odds at 1st overall compared to other teams. Stop the nonsense indeed.

So what good would trading lupul, phaneuf, and kessel for late round (playoff teams) picks
- jribout

Because the Leafs would probably finish dead last which would greatly improve their odds of drafting really high and because they would get a boat load of top prospects and draft picks that they can use to strengthen their system.

theoretically that would cause them to finish last, so you have 1st overall, plus those picks.

Or they could do that and not trade away the team.

They can have their cake and eat it too.

The lengths you go to, to sell this crap, and come up empty handed is amazing.

Hope you don't work a commission based job.

i think the leafs will suck forever and never win the cup again, when a big asteroid hits the earth in the future there will still be people on the internet arguing what u do.

the point here is, dumb people have existed in the past and they will in the future.

Im not ignoring the fact that Vancouver has been drafting in the 20s for years now, unlike Toronto who wont be drafting anywhere near there.

The Leafs are not, and will not be, last or second last overall. Stop the nonsense indeeder.

Then again, im not the one saying Nonis and the Leafs cant draft, but also saying Nonis can lead this team to glory through drafting. Stop the nonsense indeedest.

theoretically, getting Kessel would cause the Leafs to not finish near last, so the Bruins cant pick 2nd overall.

It doesnt work that way. And if you want to trade players to ensure a near bottom finish, guys like Kadri and Frattin who have been among the teams better players so far would theoretically have to be traded too.
