I think its an appropriate time for another blog asking if the Sabres can win the North-East.

I'd take a roster player, picks and prospects for him. Then make a play for Bernier.

... wow.. I like that even better....

LAK has no need for Miller.. but we could get other pieces back that they do need in exchange for Bernier.

I was just trying to be clever. And make the point that it hasn't worked so well for us so far as was also noted.

Miller isn't going anywhere, just like Myers isn't going anywhere, just like Ruff isn't going anywhere.

I think at the most we move Stafford at some point but who knows what he brings back - not much is my guess.

I would be looking to package Ennis and Stafford for a very good winger.. Ennis is blocking Grigorenko's ice time and depth chart... if we can get Grigo on the 2nd line permanently with a more consistent winger than Stafford it will be very good. i don't mind Foligno or Ott on the other side for some protection and forechecking but Stafford's return to crap just shows how much his multiple hat tricks cover his a$$ every year in the stat columns.

Phillies have hte best rotation in baseball... I am so jealous it is coming out of my ears as a Brewers' fan. I did hear that we are in deep talks of adding Kyle Lohse which would be nice with Gallardo.

on ruff-

one of the most interesting quotes i read last year was from ken hitchcock after he took over the blues bench and went on a hot streak.

after being canned from cbus and turning around st. louis he was asked what the difference was.

he said (and im paraphrasing) "i realized that it was not 1999 any more. brett hull and joe nieuwendyk are not sitting on my bench any more. this is a different type of player. i had to loosen my grip a bit and let the kids play"...

this is lindy's biggest drawback. he is a dinosaur in todays game. the players dont relate to him, they dont skate through walls for him. they play afraid to make a mistake (or else matt ellis will get their ice time!!).

as a long time teacher i can attest that the age group of this new core does not respond to lindy's style and i dont see him changing any time soon.

i love lindy and im old enough to remember him as a player (loved him then too). but its time...

That statement couldnt be more true. Its a generational thing. Coaches need to adapt their approach accordingly.

Upton will either make or break that team.. if they have the lockerroom leadership to keep him in place it will be great.. otherwise.. you are looking at Jeff Carter in CLB all over again.

after this season LAK will need some help filling in their 3 scoring lines with guys like Pennar, Gagne, Richardson as UFAs and Clifford, Lewis, and Nolan as RFAs.

Their defense is where they will need the most help..

Doughty is a lock but Mitchell (35 and hurt) and Matt Greene are the only returning. Scuderi and Drewiskie are UFAs while Voynov, Martinez, Bodnarchuk, and Muzzin are RFAs.

We have tons of mediocre help that we value greatly to help them fill in their lower levels in exchange for Bernier and probably Stoll.

I would be willing to bet Myers would be 2x the player with Hitchcock as our coach. I don't think it was a coincidence Shattenkirk and Peitrangelo became studs when he got there

Piets is good but listening to Blues fans and watching some highlights.. Piets has as many turnover and flat footed mistakes as Myers does.

Personally I don't want to lose Ennis. I saw someone comment yesterday that he is loking more like Briere and less like Max and I agree with that.

I don't think anyone is blocking Grigorenko's ice time right now.

If anything I would want Ennis playing WITH Grigo.

My concern is the projection of Cody - he's no #1 center right now and in a few years I would hope that Grigorenko has our 1C. Is Cody destined to become our 2C?

He definitely does. Every D-man gets burned. Chara got toasted by Semin the other night. Myers will be fine. IMO he would be better with a better coach

I think Ennis could move back to Winger here pretty quickly... a 63-25-21 line will happen at some point of the season I almost guarantee. Ennis is just not good enough on draws.

I think that Grigo is our 1C and Hodge is keeping it warm until then and Hodge is better suited as a 2C. He is due a raise after this season and some people see Hodge going to 3M+ a season already which kind of scares me.

There are some very good 2nd line guys available this offseason in guys like Mororw, Ryder, Clowe, Riberio, Zubrus, penner, MacArthur, Weiss, Filppula, Prospal, Malhorta, Raymond, etc.

Ideally you want Cody to be your Drury type center that can play top minutes and step up to the 1st line when needed but I think he's better suited to be a 2c. He is improving his defense and just needs to round out his game and he will be a 60-70 pt guy. IMO of course

Howard needs to be healthy and smack homers again...

I quite confidently state this as my own opinion - Tyler Myers will never be an elite defenseman in the NHL. He doesn't have the right makeup.
