Would love Yandle.
I would rather lose a couple contracts like Hemsky and prospect, use that 1st for a center to develope, as that is what the team is short of at the moment. |

Ekman Larsson is going to be due for a nice pay raise this summer, if the 2013 first rounder is going to be in play we may as well go all in and try to get him instead. |

Bone who cares about Stauffer. We all know your style. Your not here to impress or please, so f Stoffer. That guy is a beauty. He writes to pay his bills, you do it for fun, and entertainment. Good job buddy as always The only thing gayer than Stauffer is actually caring about what that tool says. |

I'm not understanding. You say the guy is a beauty and then say he's a tool and I shouldn't care about what he says. Which is it? |

Richard Cloutier: Yandle, Go Get-all - Maxbone
I feel like they might want a Dman back. They'd likely rather keep their two D wonders in the AHL to develop their games further than risk any regression. That being said, they have a butt ton of NHL quality Dmen so it may be within their interests to trade a Dman. I don't think their ownership group are particularly keen on trading a player that is a key piece in their team competing for anything below overpayment. Not impossible, mind you.
To find a comparable, I'll go back a few years to the Dan Boyle trade. Tampa received quality young Dman (Matt Carle), a solid junior-aged D prospect (Wishart), a 1st and a 4th in exchange for Dan Boyle (established veteran Dman) and Brad Lukowich (serviceable NHLer). While Dan Boyle was more accomplished Dman at the time of his trade, he was also on the wrong side of 30. As such, we'll call their relative value equal.
Trade Proposal & Breakdown:
To EDM:
Keith Yandle
Nick Johnson
To PHX:
Ladislav Smid
Martin Gernat
2013 1st
Conditional 2014 4th (if the Oilers make the playoffs in 2014)
As much as I hate the idea of trading away Smid, it was either him or Petry and I'd rather not trade him away. In Yandle, the Oilers get an accomplished left-handed offensively-minded Dman who makes their D a whole lot more mobile (Schultz, Schultz, Petry, and Yandle are all great skaters). In Smid and Gernat, Phoenix gets a hard working, defensive stalwart that plays a style I feel would fit very well with Dave Tippet's system and a young promising, offensively-gifted Dman coming up through the juniors. Obviously they also get a 1st in a deep draft. Likely mid-round, but it could be end up being high if the trade doesn't work out too well for the Oilers.
Oh yeah and Nick Johnson is a Calgary native. How much would it hurt for him to play for the Oilers? |

I don't know. Lady and a 1st rounder? That seems like a lot to give up. Plus I liked drinking with (watching him party) Smid and I love his passion to be here, he is so grounded and excited to be a cog in the wheel. I think he is a part of the solution not the problem.

cmon peeps, yandle is to the coyotes what j shultz is to edm. you guys are not even close in the range of what they would ask. pho as much as I hate to say it, is a playoffteam, they will ask for the moon for yandle. better off spending that cash on an FA next year imo. or if the trade went down they would ask for hall. guys look at yandles stats. hes a potential 60+ p a year def. which is why I go the FA route and get streit |

It's not that he's part of the problem, but you have to give up quality to get quality. I too love Smid's enthusiasm and candor, but he- along with Petry- are our only two accomplished young Dmen of quality. I'd rather keep Petry as we have two prospective prospects coming through the pipeline who play comparable styles to the one that Smid plays (Klefbom and Musil) and none who could exactly what Petry brings (right-handed two-way puckmover). It would also allow management to move Whitney (among other players) for a tougher Dman without fear of diminishing breakout ability. |

I don't think the Oilers have anything the Yotes need, the big four/five are untouchable, and past them it would just be spare parts and potential in return for an established top pairing dman, probably top 15 in the league.
Plus, why would Phoenix want to move him, having an abundance of talent on the back end is a great thing, as is having an abundance of talent up front like the Oilers.
This was also western conference finals team, I don't think they're just gonna blow it up out of nowhere. That would be like San Jose trading Marleau for a pick and a prospect while they're trying to go for the cup.
If salary is an issue, I'm sure they can find a better deal than what the Oilers have to offer. I think that the Oiler's top prospects are just too good, and the next level of players aren't good enough. But you never know... |

Ya man, I'm a gringo in a different place. The best is when little fer's (16 or 17 year old's) look at you like your nothing (I am about 6'0" 190) and they still demand my wallet! Note to self buy more smokes in the afternoon as to not get robbed. Extra note to self: when guy comes at you with a brick??? laugh and throw Oilers hat at his face while spitting in his face. Follow up with furry to his whole body, paying most attention to his face. Promise him you are finished when you feel like stopping. When you are done with this take his smokes and walk to Co-Pec and purchase more cigarettes. Maybe repeat tomorrow? |

Would be nice to have yandel but if we trade for him we will have a cap hit of 5.4 mill for the next 4 yrs. I know we will still have 4.9 mill left if we buy out horcoff and trade Hemskey( sorry for the spelling. I'm getting to the end of my nightshift and I've been up for 12) but we will still have to sign nuge and Shultz the next year. I think if we are going to trade for anyone in Phoenix we should trade for henrrik Samuelson (Now I know I'm getting sleepy cuz I think I'm dreaming). As for whitey and hemmer, trade them for some picks this year or for some prospects. We still have klefbom and musil coming up next year and I know they won't play in the top four but with Shultz and Shultz and petry and smid I think we have a pretty solid top four right now. Keep the course and keep up the good work drafting. |
