Has winning the Stanley Cup in the modern NHL become a formality? There are few repeat winners and few ever even get that deep in the playoffs in the following years. Granted Boston might, but L.A. is already looking like the 8th place team they were last year. Does anyone fear playing the cup winners anymore????

Sabres had two good years in the 2000's and other then that I agree. Its sad because both teams have loyal die hard fans. Yet you get teams like tampa and carolina winning the cup - Smittyx36

Imo it's that fan pressure thats played a big part in both teams GM's being forced into trying to build in a hurry rather than taking time and building from foundation up..
That said both the Leafs and Sabres have a foundation in place now but it's gonna take some time before u see it on the ice..Just have to hope management doesn't try to rush things..

All of these Leaf fans on here stating the fact that the Sabres havent won a cup ever are seriously joking right? Yes the Sabres havent won a cup, but guess what Since the Sabres joined the league they haven't either. It is real easy to win a cup when there are 6 freaking teams. Enough just look at their last 8 years missed playoffs missed playoffs missed playoffs well you get the point.
Now on to the hit. Ruff did in fact say it best. Kaleta wasn't defenseless. However it is hard to tell if Brown left his feet before impact or during impact. Suspendable I dont think so. Maybe a fine but not suspendable. Also calling Kaleta one of the dirtiest in the NHL is taking it a little far. Has he had his issues yes (see headbutt) however there have been no knees cough cough Marchand no stick issues cough cough Cooke or no new rules cough cough Avery. So all he really does is skate as hard as he can into the boards alot. He is by no means a heavy weight and he is not paid to fight. He is paid to make some noise and kill some penalties which he isnt bad at. So all of this asking him to answer the bell crap needs to end. He does what he has to do to stay in this league, if it involves turtling once and a while to draw a penalty so be it. Also Darcy Tucker is the king of that move so going around saying he would answer the bell for his nonsense is total crap, he invented "turtling".

Jesus man, you're reacting like he drove a Mack truck into your goaltender. It was clearly unintentional.. And he barely touched him.
The hyper sensitivity when it comes to Miller in buffalo is fine for you guys, but i doesn't automatically apply to fans of other teams. Reimer has had concussion problems, and he got slid into pretty good against the isles.. And rangers. Brown didn't jump on Rick Nash and try to donkey kong him for it either. - joel878
