I can't understand how people keep saying Sekera is our best defensemen. He is a -2 on the year. Leopold is the only one lower with a -3. He only has 5 hits. Myers and Regehr both have 12 and Weber has 3 playing in one game. He pinches at the wrong times and is horrible at keeping the puck in the zone. He makes bad passes once he is in the offensive zone, and seems to be always giving the puck away. Just because he had a goal in the last game doesn't make him our best d-man. He is a liability on the ice. - adambuffalo
He has easily been our best defenseman. He doesn't have the hit stats because instead of drilling the other team's player, he's picked their pocket and has already made a breakout pass. As for the +/-, there are only four Sabres in the plus column this season. The only blatant mistake I can remember from him so far this year has been the missed hit that resulted in a 2 on 1 for Toronto in the last game. He's constantly disrupting the opposition's plays, by forcing people to the outside, or knocking down passes.
If you think Sekera's been playing badly, you haven't been watching, or don't know very much about hockey. There's more to the game than the stats, my friend. |

The times he is out of position or gives up an odd man rush far exceeds the positives. Has he been the wrost D man ...no has he been the best ... no
IF he is such a good D man how come hes had to fight for a spot non stop for years? |

Or u could eliminate the risk and trade for someone who is signed
And if Pegula is willing to throw big $$$ around (which seems to be the case)...
Doesn't it make for Darcy to just wait for free agency and not give up all the pieces it's take to acquire the "star" ppl want? - jdfitz77
If someone like that became available I'm all about it. But it seems there are usually more soon to be free agents on the block. |

With every point to make up is more difficult with the shortened season do you think this will casue more sellers sooner? |

Haha while I dont agree they are our better penalty killers. Hecht brings more to the table than his lack of scoring killing penalties is one of those instances |

If that's all that's available I'll wait till free agency to try for them,
That way I'm not giving up valuable prospects, picks, etc |

Thats why a 4th line of Kaleta-Hecht-Scott ill take all day every day
not supposed to score and can handle a top line defensive duties |

i think its because he will have a couple of shifts a game where reads the play really well forces a turnover and sets up a odd man rush. he has great shifts but on the flip side he will also have a few bad shifts where he makes a terrible read/play that turns out to be costly. - joshs
Dude is like Karlson out there. |

Anyone else think the Devils are going to fall off hard? They are 3-0-2 and they have only scored 12 goals this year |

Intersting observation. I'd say probably. Maybe not out of the playoffs, but they wont hang on long scoring like that. |

You could argue that he hasn't been 'the best,' but I totally disagree that his negatives outweigh the positives. If he hasn't been the best, he's been second best, IMO. He is sound in his own zone, and has been good at holding the line in the O zone. Makes very few sloppy passes.
And he hasn't been fighting for a spot for years. He's played 145 out of 164 games over the last two seasons, and every game so far this year. He's only now turning 26, only now getting to the age that defensemen enter their prime. He's gotten better every year. You can't hold grudges against young players forever; a lot of them do get better over time, and Sekera is definitely one of them. |
