prolly. stats piled up like marty, but also really talented.

id give "best" to st. patrick, but most talented/gifted to hasek...

so when myers was a rookie he was blatantly disregarding lindy's "system" and won the calder.

now lindy has convinced him to play under his "system" and he looks lost

thank you for clarifying, i was so confused.

I asked for your excuse for Myers. He proved one year that he can be really good. What about the past two and the beginning of this one?

Don't get me wrong either I am by no means saying Hasek was an average goalie he was elite for sure you just don't hear him brought up in the conversation as much but this is a Sabres thread and he did play here and I'm not saying he doesnt deserve to be in the conversation I just don't talk to enough Buffalo fans to hear his arguement is all

Your joking right? Hasek played on a team that would have finished in the bottom of the league every year with any other goalie. Hasek is the greatest goalie of the 90's and IMO of all time.

Patrick Roy would say different......

Nope. Myers was fresh his rookie year and was playing his own style and now he has adjusted to ruffs style of play and he is average at best. Ruffs style is not working here anymore. HE HAS TO GO.
- Smittyx36

so why did ehrhoff have an excellent year and is playing pretty good on a flopping team right now this year?

similar playstyle to how myers played in year 1

I've been waiting for an answer to this for... well, ever since they started spewing this nonsense.... Name me any player who Ruff ruined... Seeing as how he's had such an abundance of "talent" to ruin since he's been here. I would argue that he has squeezed every last drop of talent out of whoever he's been unfortunate enough to coach... Besides Hasek (whom he was very lucky to have)

Briere is probably the only player you can point at and say, "Look he has played better since leaving". But, he also played very well for Ruff.

So please name even 1 player he ruined with an explanation as to how that player was ruined.

- JCSabs06

Thomas Vanek? His point production has gone down each year... The longer you stay with ruff the worse you get.

hasek was gifted for sure. but so was roy. he was the epitome of a "money goalie". he got even better in the playoffs. that 93 Cup with the habs was all him.

its funny- as an old school goalie myself- i love marty- esp in todays era of monster blocking shooter tutors, but i dont even consider him in the "best ever" conversation. huh...

my excuse? i dont have an excuse. maybe hes just not that good and he played out of his balls in the first year, and was maybe paired with his perfect match that he cant find again.

Or his injuries have escalated and more teams are aware of who he is... he isn't on the 3rd line going against teams' worst D pairings anymore.. he is the biggest offensive threat we have so teams are prepared for him...

I would trade Vanek in a heartbeat.

Greatest puck handleing goalie ever but far from the best ever.
Put him on Hasek Sabre teams and hed be ok at best.

That trap hockey makes me want to puke.

- hubie

To realize who the best goalie was, ask yourself, could Marty or Roy win as much as Hasek did in Buffalo. I say no.

Hasek on the Avs or NJ and you have yourself 6 Stanley Cups

Chris Osgood should be put in the "Money Goalie" catagory as well, that dude came up big when it mattered. Very under rated but also had very good teams in front of him.

So what do you think a baby giraffe gets back in a trade?

The more games he plays his value goes lower and lower.

He certainly isnt helping it, that's for sure.

see i dont view that as gifted (athletically).

he was FOR SURE the best clutch goalie ever- not even close. put teams on his back over and over.

if hasek had half of roy's mental toughness this wouldnt even be a discussion. he was a freak athletically but a bit fragile to say the least...

Vanek production hasn't decreased year after year. He is an Up year, Down Year guy. He will always give you around 65-70 points a year though.

Take out the 73 and his point total goes down every year. Stafford is another one. Prove me wrong please

Ehrhoff has been a disappointment in my eyes.
70+games 1 PP goal. That was the main reason he was signed to a 10 year deal. Our PP has been brutal since he has been the QB

You can't just take out a year. Take out Myers first year and you have a pile of trash on skates.

and even if you did it still doesnt go down every year

Last game he played like perhaps our best D-man according to a lot of people. I heard a lot of people say that he was money in OT.

Yup. But ruff squeezes every bit of talent out of these guys .
Thats why leino did so good, erhoff, myers, stafford, roy, etc.

Ruff was a good coach but his time here in Buffalo needs to come to a end.
