We'll ignore the fact the habs moved further up in that draft then the Penguins?

Am I the only one that is worried about having Plek and DD as our first two centers. They are both good players, but if we actually manages somehow to make the playoffs, how far could we go?
- ShafterBenRaide

I'm thinking this team needs to focus on that first objective before starting to think of the second at this point.

That's not my point. If you assume that Galchenyuk takes over as number 1 center is 2 years time, then why do Eller OR DD warrant "giving a shot" as you say on line #2? Plekanec is proven, is a bargain at 5M, scores on the PP, wins 50% of his draws, is one of the better PKers in the league, and we already know what he is. It's not a maybe. The idea that we'll get more for him in a trade is complete non-sense. WHO CARES! We finally have a prospect that looks like he's going to be the real deal in terms of being the #1 centerman we've been asking for for 15 years. Why would we then gamble on the a maybe on the 2nd line now instead of keeping the guy we know will do the job?!
- kev1586

Because Plekanec is 32 and not getting younger. He won't be #2C for Galchenyuk's entire career. We have to find a future 2C sooner or later, and we have a talented, young, mature player in the organization who could probably fill that spot given the chance.

Didn't they change the rules so every team that's out of the playoffs gets a shot at the #1 spot? Or something like that...
- Pecafan Fan

doesn't matter, verdict is in! after 6 games and a 4-2 record, it's been determined that this is a bad team.

It's not the best team in the league, for sure, but, I find that through 6 games, they are widely different and dare I say, better than last year.

They were doing fine until that (frank)ing meltdown they had yesterday during and after the penalties to White.

Players are playing until close to 40 now. That's 8 years to draft and develop another 2nd line center, and Montreal are experts in this matter! (See: Koivu, Saku; Ribeiro, Mike) Again, if you have a real number 1 center, you keep your proven guy until someone FORCES you to give him a chance. Eller will have had 3 years after this season and it's not happening. Time to move on. Even if he does develop into a real 2nd line center, it's not a risk worth taking if we could potentially have a window to compete "for real".

For the last time, Eller did not prove he could fill Plek's shoes...

He needs a shot to prove he can, but his play does not warrant one as of now.

Can't believe you're criticizing Eller.
